Hello. I am looking for some very basic direction on where to get started on modding or flashing my xbox 360 to be able to play backups.
Everything I have found on google pertaining to this is either from 2006 or 2007 -- I didn't want to follow a tutorial written in 2006 on flashing my DVD drive if something has changed since then.
I have an xbox 360 Elite, but may consider buying a different xbox based on what I learn. I don't necessarily want to install a modchip, but if this is easier, I will consider it.
Basically, what I would like to know is with what console (elite or non-elite) is it easiest to play backups on? Also, is it easier to flash the DVD drive or install a modchip?
And finally, are there any good tutorials for doing this that someone could recommend to me? The problem I am having is that I can't seem to find any "recent" tutorials on the subject.

I have but one question at this point. If I purchase a Kreon drive, do I need to do anything additional with bitsetting or is that taken care of by default with that drive?
I don't entirely understand what bitsetting means; the guide did not go into great detail about that.
I don't have a kreon drive so I'm not entirely sure if they come with bit setting as a default. An easy way to tell is to get the model number of the drive you're going to get and type in that model number and the words "bit setting" into google. That's how I found out my drive has bit setting. Make sure the bit setting works with DVD+R DL. I haven't researched what it actually does, but I do know that a friend of mine did not have it and the copies always failed where as I have it and I've only had one failure.
As far as playing online, you have to have a stealth copy of the game in order to play on line. You'll need XDVD Mulleter to make sure that your copy is a stealth copy. Basically what they do is fool the servers into thinking they're legit and then you can download updates as normal. There is always a chance you could get your xbox banned from live for doing this as nothing is perfect. However, your account will not be banned so you could simply go and get another xbox and log in with the same name and you'd be able to play.
