so let me get this straight a mod chip for the wii allows you to play PAL games on your NTSC/U wii? and also allows youto play your backup games?

Yes and yes. But please be aware of 'bricking' which can occur to your Wii if you update the system with a different-region game.

hmm, so really what u should do is just play your own regions games, if there is a game you wanted to play from a different region, who could u tell if it had a firmware update? sorry i just started researching this so im kind of noob

sorry for double post but i forgot one thing. should i update my wii firmware before i get a chip in it? because when i update it tells me tht if i have any mods my wii might not work, so some advice on that would also be greatly appreciated
