ok so is it safer to try to flash my xbox360 dvd drive in safemode on my computer

When you flash the 360 drive, you're not going to be in Windows! You're going to be using DOS, so no, you don't have to worry about Safe Mode!

Hitachi drives are flashed in Windows. You don't really need to be in safe mode for flashing those, but it won't hurt to be in safe mode if it made you feel safer.
