So. My launch console finally gave me the boot.

I originally got this from a friend, a while back, with two 120mm fans mounted to the bottom attached to a standard ATX power supply (ugly as sin, but it explains why the warranty was voided, but otherwise, no work has been done to this system as far as mods are concerned..)

First, it gave me the RROD yesterday afternoon, with the error code 0102. I tried Lawdawg's method of removing the x clamps, and it began running for about.. 5 minutes, then freezing, no matter what I was doing, then freezing at the startup xbox logo, then RROD immediately after. If I adjusted the screws, it would repeat, in that exact same order.

So, I tried the eraser over the RAM, and started it up, but this time gave me the error code 0103. I restarted once more, and it lasted for about 5 minutes, but froze again, and now consistently freezes at the xbox logo on startup, and won't even budge past it.

Keep in mind all these tests and such were done without a harddrive, so I doubt it's a problem like that.

Any ideas on what to try next? Thanks!

When I fix RRoD's I normally remove the x-clamps, clean off the exist. thermal paste, reapply new thermal paste and reattach the heatsinks using nylon and steel washers. Then I add copper heatsinks to the ram chips using foil tape. I hook everything back up with the fan over the exposed heatsink for the cpu and let it run for about 20 to 30 minutes. Power off and let it cool down for 20 minutes or so and typically that fixes the overheating problem. In addition I also add electrical tape around the lip of the shroud and the heat sinks.

XBOX Halo Ed. = DuoX2 w/250gb HD
Xbox 360 Red Elite 120GB HDD = no-stealth 1.6 & XBReboot V3 & 1TB usb hdd
PS2 Slim = freemcboot v1.8 - PSP Black Slim = 5.00m33-6
Wii = w/ Blue XCM ii-case, Wiikey2 & softmodded

If X-clamp worked for 5 minutes, then it's fully fixable by x-clamp. Did you readjust tension of screws? Mostly importantly, did you overheat is during the process? This is the key for a permanent fix.
