Hi, I jus recieved a modded xbox 360 with a modded firmware hitachi drive. I want to convert back to original firmware to play live, however, i dont have the original firmware. I tried looking for firmware at hitachi websites to no avail. Any idea I could look for original firmware? If i decide to replace the drive, would any drive work or does it have to be hitachi? could it be samsung or toshiba? Thanks.

You'll need the Hitachi drive as a general rule, there might be ways around that but I doubt it.
In truth though, you almost definitely wont be banned for playing originals on a modded box, seeing as Microsoft doesn't (and probably cant) read the drives firmware. I'd say just go for it. That way you can also just play your backups offline.

Even if you convert back to orginal FW, they can still tell if you have had hacked FW.

If you still want to convert back and lost orginal FW you need to do this: Find the orginal FW from online- someone here can just email it to you. Then obtain your hacked FW from the drive or you might have it stored-easier. extract the key from the hacked FW, inject it to original FW. Viola good as new. reflash into drive.

Do you actually have any proof or anything suggesting that they can read the hacked firmware?

I thought it was accepted knowledge that only burnt disks are detectable.

supposedly, the system makes a log of what games you play, originals or backups. once you go onto LIVE, that log is sent to microsoft. so if you always keep the ethernet cord or wireless adapter plugged in, the log will be sent.

Could be wrong but think I can remember if you download garyopa's hitachi firmware it has a restore Batch file that changes back you're hacked firmware to original, I would read up on this first, why did garyopa create a restore batch file if you have an original firmware?? so it must work.

That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. He was the man and savior for Hitachi folks untill C4E came out with xtreme for Hitachi, of course they worked together.

But that's old stuff now, it won't help you in not getting detected. In fact, they always know.
