I purchased my sony playstation two about 6 months after it was released. (IT IS NOT A SLIM)
The model number is SCPH- 30,001/97,000.
Unfortunately about a week ago I dropped my ps2 and it shattered the top portion of the ps2. The hardware is fortunately in tact but I don't want to run it with no top.
I was looking on the internet for a basic replacement top (the same as found on the original) but it says my ps2 must be a 70,000 model.
So my question is does my playstation two model SCPH- 30,001/97,000 mean that it is capable for items 30,000 through 97,000. Meaning this new top (model 70,000) will work?
It's a basic top and i dont want to buy a new ps2.
Most likely your model number is just "SCPH- 30,001", that is what you have to go by when shopping for compatible accessories.
You may find it hard to find a genuine Sony top cover for the PS2, but you can probably find a flip top cover quite easily. Search for the string
PS2 "flip top"
on any good search engine.
Be aware though that some people buy a flip top to play backup games, so there is a piracy stigma attached to this part. Incidentally, if you don't plan to play backup games, buy just the flip top without software that enables backups; that should save you some US$20.
"flip top" is exactly what I meant. But I know the term is tabboo so I had to beat around the bush. Thanks for your help. I am going to order a flip top very soon. :X
