OK PEEPS WHEN THE BOXES ARE BEING UPDATED TO 4.55 FOR TO WORK WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS RESCAN THE BOX ONLY A CHANNEL DUMP WILL NOT WORK WITH THAT FIRMWARE AS IT IS DIFFERENT AND YOU WILL HAVE PROB
DO A FULL FACTORY RESET TURN THE BOX OFF AT THE BACK THEN BACK ON THEN RESCAN THE CHANNELS WITH NO SPLITTERS ON THE CABLE IN AFTER THIS TURN ON YOUR EMU
NOW THIS IS THE EASY PART LET THE BOX UP DATE IT WILL GO UP AND UP MAYBE TO 250% IF SO LEAVE IT DO NOT CHANNEL HOP IT WILL THEN GET A BLANK SCREEN AND THEN IT WILL START UPDATING AGAIN LEAVE IT LET IT UPDATE AGAIN IT WILL KICK THE BOX IN BUT BE WARNED IF YOU CHANNEL HOP IT WILL START ALL OVER AGAIN SO JUST BE PATIENT AND LEAVE IT

Hi guys, new guy here hoping to find an electronics wizard.
My StarviewPVR (twin tuner) has stopped working properly and just shows "On" but the remote won't make it do anything. Another thread somewhere else pointed to component failure with some Caps in the PSU, well Maplin supplied replacements but no change. Next it was suggested that the regulator on the main board had gone, and it turned out that it had, changed it, and it promptly blew again. So have changed it for a higher spec regulator but it just gets very hot so I switch off. I know this will mean that there is another component or 2 or more gone on the main board but with SMD components it is impossible for me to identify which ones.
It is definitely the main board because if I disconnect it, then the hard drive spins up which it doesn't do otherwise.
Does anyone know of any "expertise" on this subject in the Liverpool area I can call upon to assist ?

(Incidentally, all this went on before any code changes so it isn't down to that aspect of working.

put 455 on mates the box in dublin and autscan will not work no matter how many times i do it tried turning it of for a while and autoscan i had to do sw transfer from box with channel data got all in but only half work the rest say no signal tried manual scan the lost channels but nothing

my box in dublin lost all the channels the other day from nt* i was about to update the firmware but then was given some codes and is back working perfectly. are the new codes only a temporary fix for me?? or is my box working perfectly again??

Solution:
I recently flashedd new firmware on my box pvr. I scanned in all of the channels but could only get 1 or 2 of them. The rest remained blank. They would not even start loading or show a progress bar. The reason was that the new firmware came with new settings. When I went into menu - system setup - under menu key there was a new feature- keycode. If you turn this on the channels update immediately. Hopefully this helps someone...

My box pvr keeps on turning off and rebooting. I thought it might be an overheating problem but even if it is plugged out all night it still does it! It switches off for a few seconds and then comes on again! This has been happening for a while so it is not the new software but it is happening all the time now and I am considering buying a new one. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?? If not is the box pvr ok or does anyone recommend a different one??

Ive been through all the threads and hopefully im posting on the right thread! My channels are all blank with the update screen stuck at 0%. I presume I have to flash/upgrade the firmware. I have never flashed the box before and I'm willing to give it a go and follw the instructions on the other thread.. I'm just not sure which software. Am I right in thinking I need The Box 4.55.rar?
I'm heading home for xmas and the girlfrien staying in Dublin. I'm dead meat if I don't sort it out before I go home!!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

correct 4.55 for the box is right flash with the 4.03 loader and do a new channel scan that's is files as always in the eko site on some members signature just have a look

Hi Liamo,
Your box sounds similar to the way that mine was behaving before it stopped altogether and it now just shows "On" on the display. Mine would restart all by itself and then be "ok" after a few minutes cooling down, but then it finally stopped altogether. I think you will find that it's the end of the road for your box. They seem highly subject to overheating, the regulator device on the main circuit board runs very hot at the best of times and only has a little bit of circuit board to dissapate the heat. If the box is in an enclosed environment, it is likely to overheat, cook itself to death, and then die a slow death. They are like everything else in this category, a great device when they work, and a PITA when they don't. There is just a possibility that changing a few specific capacitors on the power supply board might help, and then even the regulator on the main board, but if that doesn't work, you're in the same position as me, dead in the ether with a smart but non working silver box :|
Hope that helps and I'm not meaning to sound particularly negative, but once the electronic components fail in this device, help is very limited. You may be lucky, it might just be the PSU capacitors that need changing, but don't bet on it.

Karljd, my problem existed before I flashed my box - I had (stupidly) done a factory reset when I initially lost some of the non fta channels. Up to that point everything was working, since reset I can't get out of the setup because I can't get it to find any channels.
As reference I had Cryptstar V1.4 400 on the box when I started having problems. Since losing all the channels I flashed it again with this and then with Version 1.5(both sourced from this site)

Thanks Pip. I have selected the language - even changed it to French to make sure - but the problem remains that I can't find any channels during the automatic rescan. I also tried to do a manual scan - no success.

What area are you and have you (obviously a silly question) got the live cable feed plugged into the cable input socket at the back, and have you checked that you do have a LIVE cable feed.

Collie100 - this sounds like my problem. If I understand right autoscan wouldn't find any channels ?
Not sure I understand what you mean by "SW transfer from box with channel data" - can you explain?

Malci's "silly" questions should be followed through, it's easy to miss something. Have you turned EMU on or not?

No, I have a live feed from NTHell & have checked cables etc.. as I mentioned previously it was working fine - then I lost a few channels (scrambled) so I tried factory reset - and can't find a channel since. Thats why I thought it might be setting related - factory settings being somehow wrong for area I'm in (Dublin). Can't understand why I can't find even the basic set of channels .....

I have tried with both EMU off and on - although my understanding was that you leave EMU off while doing automatic scan and then turn on ......right ?

If you can't find the basic set of freeview channels then I would double check the following.
Connections to the box and TV.
Provider-have you scanned the correct one?
I've done 16 of thes with no problem so I know it works but even without the new firmware you should still get channels.
Your box will still detect them but may not decode them so if the problem is at the scan stage it seems like a connection problem.
