Got to pop out for now but will be back.
If your problem is not receiving ANY channels then it is not a fimware problem unless you have a clone.
All these boxes receive free to air programmes.

I hope i'm asking this in the right place, there are so many rules and threads it gets confusing for an old dodderer like me!
I'm at work at present so can't go check things exactly, but I'm hoping i've finally found the right place for fixes for my unit. It's called The Box and is a twin-tuner PVR, with somtimes quite confusing instructions. I had to fit an IDE HD myself. The backscreen to the menus seems to be the same graphic of a satellite type object to the lower right, and the menus look visually similar to all those i've found in the various forums.
The 1570 thing doesn't work on mine but the 2007 (in Parental Control?) does. My service provider is n*l but when i first installed it, and when i had to re-scan about a month back, i had to select te**w**t for the scan to find anything. Can someone confim what box i've got (or ask more probing questions if this type of box has a clone) so that i can make sure i get the right fix. My PC doesn't have a serial port, so i presume i need the USB equivalent of the null modem? I have a 4shared account ready if someone can kindly post a link?
Thanks for being there, to all the clever guys!

Now as to the question of there being any clones, I personally have not come across one, or anyone posting a problem with regards to one, but I stand to be corrected, as I also think that the majority of the Starview range has been cloned, but I am not 100% certain about the PVR, if it has then someone will be along to verify especiall jbvideo, at least.

If the box will not go into standby mode :-
Then you have had a BAD flash, what you now have to do to recover from it, is to use the bad flash recovery method, so click the 1st Starview link at the bottom of my post and go down the page to the Bad Flash instructions. Make sure that you have the correct firmware for the box, and follow the instructions, it may get it first time, but it could take in excess of 20 plus attempts, you have just got to keep trying okay.

Also are you sure you have loaded the correct firmware as the file contains both Genuine box and Clone firmware.

You have put the wrong firmware on your box, you have put Starview 2 on it, so get it off right away with this firmware Core400.bin for GENUINE SV1, >>>>>>>>>>

Use the GTRom 4.00 Loader >>>>>>>>

Menu and then 1570 is the pin to get into the Cas System menu, if that does not work, then go into Parental Control and type 2004, press the INFO button and type 2004 again, and your in. You need now to update your box wwith the UK fix, okay, have a look here at first post >>>

hey all
I updated the firmware on the Box (pretty sure its Starview 2 The Box)
Firmware version now reads 4.55e_E , Boot ver 7.0, 4 dec 2008
Rebooted the box etc but the problem remains, in that the "data is being updated 0%" box is still there
I also did a factory reset and turned the EMU back on...
Couple of channels i set it to ran up to 240% or whatever but then it just went back to 0%
Is it just a matter of leaving on a channel for a few hours or what?
Managed to get a code in the meantime but im not sure thats gonna last for long!
Help please! thanks :)

I found the latest firmware after flashing i had this problem.
To get the data to actually update I had to put it on Dicovery channel. Turn off and on, go to discovery channel and leave it for a while. It worked for me, all channels came back except for a few like film four, channel four, set sports 2 etc..
Does anyone else have these channels missing after firmware updated?
Hope this helps!

As Karl has said pretty sure is not good enough! Firmware for boxes is different for each and everyone.
On your thinking you could put eurovox firmare in and expect it to work!

Sorry about the last post there, this applies to the Starview original not Starview 2. I didn't notice yours is SV2.

Your advice is not wrong. Sly sports1 is recommended as it is a strong signal and will "force" the firmware to do th update. Other PPV channels will do it but may take longer.

Pip - went through everything again this evening - no joy. At this stage I am assuming that a)the factory reset has somehow blown something in decoder or b) the factory settings are incorrect. I'm close to giving up - family are pushing me to fix or buy another box. Just won't be able to get one before Christmas.........
All, thanks for all the help - great site - hope you all have Nappy Christmas !

Factory re-set does exactly what it says. It puts it back onto FTA programmes only.
Check all your connections again and make sure they are correct

What exactly is your problem? Hi, er, yes -the problem! Sorry, all the channels have gone. I've read through so many threads about fixes to get channels back on this box and that box, that i neglected to mention the problem, Doh! The response after yours gives a link to an ad for my type of box, so i'll follow that advice and will hopefully navigate myself to the right place. Yes, i'll scan tw again, i just thought it strange that n*l is my provider but tw is where the goods are. No probs, many thanks!

You think that's bad? I started as a Nynex customer, became a Ca*le & W*reless customer and then an NT Hell Customer. I scan on Ex C&W but I can also do it on Telep*st.

Hi, yes that's the one, thank you, and thank you for the link. I've downloaded the fix from the link. I just need to make sure i find the right guide to use it!
My comment about clones was just a worry. I've been trawling through lots of threads over the last couple of days (there's SO MANY posts!) and it seemed to be a big concern. My remote looks more like the one deemed to be a copy on a page for a non-pvr Starview, so i thought i'd better make sure. I'm not trying to cause any worries over these boxes!
Thanks again, i'll let you know how i get on...........
