Once again minimal info!

Is your SV1 a genuine one or a clone?

What firmware are you trying to flash it with?

Are you using a USB to serial adapter?

Why did it take over 30 attempts before you realised you had a problem?

Give us the information we need and we may be able to help you.

I've got one

Works 100%! I use a 16Gb pen drive for recording as it's easy to transfer onto PC for disc burning.

However you could just as easily use an external HDD

Sorry malci and pip , was flustered yes eve.

My problem is that i downloaded wrong firmware on my starview 1 genuine before xmas. When I hooked up box to tv just got white background and " The Box" written on screen.
This week, I checked back in forum and loaded bin file 400 into Gtrom version 4 as per bad flash tips. Starview powered off at this stage. I then hit download and 3 seconds later flicked on power switch on starview. It said flash failed. I repeated this between 40 to 50 times but no luck apart from time got longer until flash failure window appeared.
Is my starview finished. Any help appreciated..
Again, sorry about messing about in forum yes eve but I m new to it and am learning as I go.
Cheers

There's nothing wrong with learning, just remember information goes a long way in sorting your problem.

Have you tried a factory re-set and re-flash afterwards? If not do so now and let us know the result.

Are you sure it is a Genuine box and not a clone? (clone firmware will work on a Gen box not visa versa)

I take it that you can bring up the menu if not you may need to jtag it.

Pip

Hi, new user so please bear with me.

I have "the box" and want to update the firmware or whatever it's called.

Not sure if it's a clone, so how do i find out?
It only has "the box" written on it so which make is it?
Where do i find the most recent and correct file to update?
Connecting "the box" to the pc via the comms/serial port.
Oh also in the dublin ntl area.

Any help and suggestions mucho appreciated.

Scroll up this thread and look for malci. You will find a link in his sig for eamo's library. All the firmware is there and tutorials on how to do it.

I've put the link below in my sig

Its a starview 1 genuine based on what i ve seen in forum, i.e. positions of cable sockets and i ve 25x7 vents on top

Cant bring up menu on tv, cant do anything when hooked up to tv.
What does Jtag mean?

One final question. Are you using a USB to SERIAL converter?

If so make sure it is using one of the comm ports 1-3.

With the box powered down (switch on back) load the firmware into GTROM loader click download and then switch on the power.

Which firmware did you try which was wrong? I've a spare SV1 and will try to replicate your problem.

yes, its a usb to serial convertor and I am using port 1. It was either "The box" or " the box super" firmware I put on it originally

Either or doesn't help to reproduce the problem. Surely you still have the firmware you used on your PC?'

GTROM loader will go to com port 1 by default. What does your PC say which port it is using for the USB-Serial?

If you are using XP (and I think the same for Vista) Right click on my computer click properties then click the hardware tab. Click the + sign on Ports(COM & LPT) You will then see something like this USB to Serial Comm . Port(COM3) if the com number is not within the 1-3 range you need to change it.
