Hello all. After months of inactivity, I finally pulled out my Wii because I got an original Super Smash Bros Brawl game as a gift. My Wii has one of those early mod-chips (I think it was modded in May, 2007) and my last/current update is "2.2". I haven't opened nor played the game on my modded Wii as of yet and I've read that it will update my Wii. Now, will this update in any way damage my Wii or render my mod-chip useless?

For those in the know, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.
