if i insert original the chip goes off but copies spin once and go to unable to read disc??have tried flexing pins forward to get better connection in wii clip and scrapping off oxide layer on pins of d2c ic.anyone else had this error??

Installing a Modchip via Wii Clip can make the instillation unpredictable. You will have a hard time figuring out if it is an issue with the Modchip the Wii Clip etc. etc.

As well are you sure you have a modable D2C system? When did you buy the Wii.

There are numerous D2C2 drives out there that will not be modable via D2CKey.

Had this on one of the five I modded this week - answer was to reseat the clip (after blowing the dust off the D2C chip and the clip using a can of spray air).

When did you buy this Wii system?

The new D2C2 drives are labeled D2C as well.

As I said before could be Modchip issue. Could be Wii Clip issue could be a D2C2 drive that is not compatible with D2C2 drives.

An unchipped Wii is able to tell the difference - I'd say that for whatever reason your chip isn't being recognised.

Poor soldering of the chip to clip or broken contacts in the clip would be my favoured faults. If you bought from a high-throughput merchant then you may have a D2C2 chip too and require a D2Pro v2 chip (or a replacement drive for your Wii that has a D2C '1' chip)

Crumbs - I've only had mine for 6 weeks and mine is LEH170xxxxx - not sure if any of the tracker sites have a breakdown for D2C/D2C2 yet :(

D2CKey and D2Pro work for all D2C drives accept for D2C2. If it is a D2C2 then you need a D2Pro Ver2 that supports D2C2 drives.

Make sure you get the proper D2Pro Ver2 Modchip.

This might not even be the issue. It is possible that the Wii Clip just isn't making good enough contact with all contacts that need to be made. Doing a wire installation with D2CKey (without Wii Clip) could solve the issue.

The fact is there are allot of variables here that could be the issue.

1) Bad Modchip
2) Bad Wii Clip
3) Bad solder joints connecting Wii Clip to D2CKey
4) Bad contact points between Wii Clip to chipset on the drive board
5) D2C2 Drive
