Now everyone here knows(or now knows) that the hard drive in the PS3 runs at 100MBps(or 800Mbps). Because of this we get faster load times than Xbox360 as that solely uses dvd's at about 12MBps. Now if i were to buy a internal hard drive(5400rpm 2.5' sata) that runs at 300MBps(2400Mbps) would the following happen?

1) Would it work at all?
2) Will i see a faster install on games/videos?
3) Will i see faster load times for well coded games that do not use Xbox's lower bandwidth as a rule of thumb ie MGS4 and GTA4(as in will MGS4 go faster)?

There have been a few unconfirmed problems with a faster hard drive that I've heard of.

1.)Overheating issues
2.)Apparently some games expect a precise load time and when its faster or slower than it is suppose to be it crashes.
3.)Too much extra power needed from the power supply.

Again these are just things I've heard and I can't confirm any of them.

But besides that yes theoretically it would load faster, it doesnt only depend on the HDD though; it's also the amount of data the game dumps on the HDD. The more data the more of a difference you will see.

A test was done and the 5600rpm drive was just as resourceful as a 7200 rpm drive. Go with the slower one because they are cheaper and for the ps3 there is no performance difference.

I remember reading that article, there was a slight difference but it was barely noticeable. Something like two tenths of a second off of a 15 second load time. If you want real high performance results and have deep enough pockets look into a solid state hard drive.

NO NO NO NO NO

ok so i have 2 hard drives. BOTH are 2.5' sata 5400RPM same capacity etc.

EXCEPT they have different transfer rates IE one has 100MBps (the standard ps3 seagate ones) and one has 300MBps.

again they both have the same speed (5400rpm) and also assuming power demands.

EDIT ok here are the two(ignoring capacity)

the seagate at 150MBps(different value im not sure)

a toshiba at 300MBps

Hm, I thought the transfer rate only changed when you changed interfaces. It would obviously be faster but I've never looked into that situation so I cant say how much of a diff it will make. It cant hurt to try and see I suppose since they're both 5400rpm.
