fixed rrod, but didn't work?

Hey, I've done many repairs on the dreaded 360's red ring of death, all with sucessive results, all replacing the xclamps, using washers and screws blah blah blah, and it has always worked. Now I've recently purchased a 360 with rrod, and took it apart, did the fix, exactly how I've always done it, and no luck. I've gone over so many times to see any problems, none, its the same as all my other fixes. I was wondering if there was another cause or something? I need this fixed! There is something different about this console however, it is a newer model with the extra heat sink that arms off the smaller one, anything need to be done with that? Thanks.

i am not sure about the newer heatsinks, how did they look? did you re-apply thermal compound to all 3 (i am guessing) heatsinks? most importantly did you check the error codes? get back to us with your answers and we will try to get you up and running with this dead console. also pics of what you are doing would be great.

To start with... did you bother checking the error code to make sure the rrod was caused by overheating?

Alright here are some pictures. There ar no error codes btw, nothing comes up on screen. I use nylon washers to prevent the board from shorting, and as I've said i've done the same thing for all other consoles, and it all works. Look at the compund, everything is making good connection, is there another problem that may be occuring? Oh I use screws btw to tighten everything down like you're supposed to, they are very tight too, i also tried lossening them with no luck. Help?

You should clean up your heat sink paste a bit. "Silver based compounds can have adverse effects when in contact with electrical components not to mention the thermal compounds efficiency is greatly reduced when too much is applied."<----- Copied from llamma.com
That third heatsink just attaches to the gpu so it will help cool down that heatsink because it isn't as effective as the cpu's heatsink. It doesn't need thermal paste, just make sure if the 3rd heatsink is getting hot, your gpu heatsink is hot.
Here's how to get the secondary error code, as well as other solutions to your problem.

There's a ton of quides which tell you about error codes. They don't come up on the screen. You read them from the flashing lights. You hold in the "Sync" button, and while keeping it held in, press the eject button. Each number of the error code will flash, 1 at a time. So you'll have to press the eject button 4 times, getting the number after each press.
4 lights - 0
1 light - 1
2 light - 2
3 light - 3
So you'll press the eject button, get the first number, press the eject button, get the second number, and so on.
You'll be surprised how many differnet hardware problems will cause the rrod besides the cpu/gpu.

Alright heres the update, I had the 0020 error, and decided to loosen my screws a bit to see what happens. Then I got the 0102 error, i did the x-clamp fix and changed the solder, anything else i can do?

More than likely it's the ram chips comming off the board. I think that's what 0020 is, i've had that error and fixed it with the penny fix. The link that i posted should have a link to the penny fix.

Ok heres where we're at. I have done the penny fix with no luck, still 0102, so I decided to clean up the thermal compound, and it looks like the best job I have ever done on any 360 (which my previous fixed 360s all work) Allthough this one does not still 0102, so then I decided as a last resort to do the heat gun fix, no i'm not retarded, did not overheat the board, and i did cover important parts. Still no luck, 0102. HELP!

the board may need to be reflowed. best is to send it off to a professional to reflow.

from what i saw with the paste as well was one of the pics looked like the paste had some bumps in it and wasnt too smooth, and i also thought you used too much paste. remember 1 grain of rice for the big square and spread evenly.
