Hey come on egg - was only playing you.
I have heard people say they dont create an iso, and that they drag straight from the xbox to burn files. I'm sticking to the tried and tested method myself. An extra ten minutes it may be but I know it works

Like I said you dont have to create a ISO. Just use the right software. For some reason Nero just wont work for me.. I am pretty sure that I tried every option available. Maybe not all but enough to know I was wasting my DVD's. Record Now DX is the one to use if you DONT want to make a ISO

Record Now DX was the bundled version that was initially supplied with my Sony dvd burner -
The DX means deluxe version..Here is a link that
( http://www.orlogix.com )gives some nice explanations on the main differences.....
Veritas/stomp are actually under the Sonic banner now so http://www.sonic.com may also have some info there..... Hope this helps you out

Don?t get discouraged Egg, people here need your help, we cant all be here 100% of the time to answer everyone so your help is welcome. Read the posts and put in your $0.02, the more opinions the better, your experiences can be invaluable to another user just starting out, and I have to admit, it?s a great feeling when someone thanks you for helping them get out of a jam. That?s reward enough for me.

I never use Nero 6 ultra for making a ?data disk? only for burning xISOs and movie DVDs, I use record now max/dx for everything else.

Stunn611 - Worldrave:i'm new to playin xbox backups and have a few questions. you said that you dont need a mod chip to play backups, how do i play backups without a mod chip? and how do u play backups directly off the harddrive?
Not sure how someone posted that message with my name, since i just joined these forums yesterday. Interesting. You can verify this with my friend Motomatt. You don't know my password by chance huh??? Hehe.
I do agree with others to use RecordNow for great results. Nero 6 doesn't work too well.
To Eggbert, please continue to post here, i was just jerkin your chain, i just thought that was funny about the 4 months thing, then mentioning about being able to help aanyone else. Everyone has different learning curves. I hope you didn't take too much offence. Glad your adding to the XBox scene in overall numbers. That's what it's really all about. The more people, the more help each other can get. Have fun ya'll.

In response to the q regarding how to mod the box, or rather play backups without a modchip, the other way is flashing the onboard xbox mo/bo bios (tsop) not recommended for newbies, as its the actual motherboard your messing with.

I agree with using stomp recordnow (i use the "max" version) excellent program, also I have had success with "disc juggler"
as far as creating the iso, you cant beat craxtion.

wow some friend!
so what has he done, flashed the onboard bios? (ie the one on the xbox motherboard) if so, you got a few problems. Why do you have to put a disc in, do you mean like an evox disc?
personally what I would do is get a hold of an auto installer, xaviers auto installer is the best, but slayers installer is probably the easiest to get a hold of
email me at djboogie@graffiti.net Ill try help you out

hI,
If the time it takes to make an iso is a concern, have you tried simple iso (i got it from xbox scene) it takes about 3-4 mins to make a 3GB file on my modest system(Athlon 1700,768RAM,WinXP) burn with Nero at 2x and Bob.....as they say, is your uncle.

Only reason I stopped making them (ISO) was because I wasted alot of disks in the beginning.. Not because of me, but because the ISO making utilities had alot of bugs in them and no one knew how to really make a totally xbox compliant ISO at the time.. So they only worked most of the time.. So I dont bother with them anymore..Unless I am am using Qwix..

I still reckon if youre making an xbox iso you cant beat craxtion, its real good, course the best alternative is to get a bigger hard drive in your box and put your games on it. In the long run after the initial hard drive cost, itll probably save you money too. Even so dvd-r/+r etc are coming down in price all the time, $30 being a good average price for 25 decent discs (memorex)
