Hello.
I've accidentially loaded a PAL Indiana Jones Lego disk that had requested the update for my NTSC WII.

I wasn't aware I had a PAL game until after the fact.
The update had failed by freezing in the middle of the process, and I had to reboot the WII.
Since then I am getting Unable to read the disk error which only applies to the latest few games.
Everything else prior to that, as well as NTSC Indiana Jones, works fine.
I ended up with some duplicated channels that have been removed.

A semibrick fix disk also gives me the mentioned above error.

I can do everything I need with my WII but here is clearly some problem caused by the failed update.

Does anybody have any idea what it may be?
I am on WIIKEY 1.9s, 3.2U

Thanks!

Is it possible that this is some kind of a brick?

If I had any way of foricng 3.2u to get reinstalled, that could have probably fixed it.

Any thoughts?

Actually. 3.2 ntsc and 3.2 pal are very different.

They may do the same thing, but structurally they are completely different. I believe that they did this intentionally so that people would not play the wrong region game in their console. But this is really the wrong way to go about it imho.

Since your console is SEMI bricked, there is a program out there that will more than likely fix your problem. Wii Config v1.0 by Waninkoko

I can't honestly say that this will fix your problems, as you need a way to run DOL and ELF files. But if you do have the homebrew channel, then you will have no problems using it.

I have heard many good things about it, and yes, it will work as long as you have a way to run homebrew. (HBC or Modchip)

Best of luck, and don't download illegal software.

Thanks I will try it.
However, I am not sure what that homebrew thingy is all about.

How do I do it?
As I read, the semi brick means inability to access the settings.

In my case, the only problem I am having is the error on 3 latest games.

I can adjust settings any way I want, otherwise.

Thanks for your help.

Well whenever you Load a Disk from a different region, it will "Semi-Brick" your Wii.

Firmware 3.3 which is out today disables unauthorized save files.

Actually no,

It will not delete your homebrew channel, it will only delete the Twilight Princess Save that has been edited.

You will no longer be able to use the Twilight Hack to load homebrew.

However, the HBC will still function wonderfully.

Will it fix the semibrick problem?
I am not really interested in running the homebrew, only my backups.
Thanks

Yes, this problem will be fixed as long as you have the homebrew channel installed.

Just download the above mentioned program, and follow the instructions.

Update:

I started having this problem again.
Only the latest games.
What is interesting that Lego Indiana Jones and Extreme Heroes worked after 3.3 update, and now they don't.

I just realized something...
All the games I am having an issue with are burned on DVD+R.
I wonder if DVD+R is what makes it unreadable.

Nearly all my backup games are on +R's and I've never had a problem.

I had the same problem, I posted while ago about it and did some extensive testing and found, its indeed the media.

I was using Memorex +R and they was working perfectly up until I upgraded to Wii Firmware 3.1U, after that my older games worked perfectly still, but any new burn I was doing with the same discs all came up with unable to read errors, I posted several threads trying to get more information and got the same information over and over.

After a few months since those posts, i've switched to Ridata -Rs and so far, every single burn has been perfect, not one single coaster. And I used memorex +R DL and tried it with SSBM and that worked perfectly too, I still haven't figured out exactly why the original +R I was using worked then stopped working after I upgraded the firmware, but so far, the -R i'm using now are working just fine.

This is my sig...

Great minds think alike.

I took RITEK +R (no go in WII), made an image, burned it on a RITEK -R, worked like a charm.
So, gents, it is now official, the newest games do not like +R for some reason.

I will reburn few more games that I have had troubles with and let you know in a case of some wiirdness (pun intended!).

Thats ridiculous I'm afraid.

A game cannot tell the difference between +R and -R it's irrelevant what the data on the disk is. The wii just reads it or doesn't.

If you used decent disks instead of low quality ones then it would work fine on either.

I had time to do more tests.
Reburned few more backups.

RITEK +R - neither one worked
RITEK -R - 100% success so far
And again, I want to make sure that you guys know that reburns were made by imaging the (non-working) backups first. Just to rule out a possibility that I didn't initially know what I was doing.

Now, wether or not it should work probably depend on few factors:
the make of you wii and how wii was updated (on-line or in-game) may probably be the offenders. I don't know.

What I know is that clearly as of 3.2 (someone claims 3.1 but I can not substantiate that) there is a problem of reading +R backups.
May not be a big deal but what if another update will take -R's out?
I have 2 WII's now (I've got one more for another room), and both have the same reading behavior.
I wonder if more people come forward, may be the wiikey team can look into it and release the update that addresses it.

A game might not, but a security or firmware update might. There many reasons why +R media is causing trouble, could even be the ink use who knows?

Well, I remain to be convinced.

Show me that verbatim +R no longer work and I'll reconsider.

LOL
Anyway, if it does not work on 2 units, and someone else says the same...Well, it just means that DVD+R is not a good choice to burn the wiii images on.
