I have a brand new Wii, it's the latest chip set, D2C2 and I have purchased a D2Pro (9 wire) solderless clip for it. I have both in hand and was about to install when a friend of mine tells me that I am going to brick my wii.

He claims he has been told this by forums such as this one (I know of no others) but I can't find any reference to this on this website.

I am told that if I update my PAL wii using a PAL game I will be fine but if I use any other game it will brick my Wii. The problem I am then told is that many games are disguised to be PAL games and so I run a high risk of bricking my wii by updating via games and should therefore use the wiiconnect 24 service. However the supplied of the Wii Modchip tells me this is a sure way of bricking my Wii...

Does anyone have any experience of this or is able to point me in the direction of a forum that have discussed this?

Many thanks
LL

U can use RegionFrii to both, know what system your iso is, and to be able to convert it to ur actual reagion.
you can then use the wii brickblocker to block ur out of the region game from updating (and bricking) ur wii.
The same has been asked 1201201200120 times +1 (mine).

I have just read 20 pages in one thread alone which I was pointed to as answering this question and my questions still haven't been answered.

A post from over a year ago says

You will not block you wii using the wiiconnect 24

But it is over a year old... I've spent 5 hours today trying to find the answer to my question...

Will updating via the online function GIVEN I HAVE A D2C2 Chipset and D2C2Pro (9wire) mod Brick my wii???

I know I need to play PAL games on a PAL console and I have no intention of ever doing anything other than that...
I do not need regionfrii as I don't want to run anything other than PAL games.

Give the discs are already burnt I can't use Brick Blocker to find out the region without doing some fancy stuff that I currently don't understand.

I have bought backups rather than burning myself (I don't know how at the moment!) so how can I tell what region they are?

Two questions... neither of which I can find answers too... and I have looked and I have read... and I have searched using the search tool... if there is a post PLEASE just point me to it... If the answer to the second question is that it can't be done then please just tell me.

Many thanks

For the online update, dont use it now, until further notice. If u got the 3.1 or 3.2 firmware, stick tp them (especially the 3.2).
You can play games from all regions as long as regionfrii them and u dont use their updates (brickblock them if u want).
You will not brick ur wii with conect24 as it will never install an out of region firmware update.
did it answer ur questions?

The first question is answered...
which leads to a knew one... how will I update my wii in the future if I can't use the online update?

Second question isn't answered.
I have 50 backup games that I BOUGHT already on disc. I wouldn't know how to now go about adding brickblock so how do I find out what region they are? I was told they are all PAL but I'd rather check than end up bricking my wii!

Updating NOW will stop you from using Twilight hack to run homebrews, and other goodies (such as VC, channels, bla bla bla). If you dont care about these and only want to play ur backups, u can update. The ideal is to hold on a sec before updating as some folks have found a workaround and will be published very soon. So it's up to you to update or not (I recommend u dont, but the choice is urs).

For this, the most practical solution is to run them. if any of them asks to update, u stop the process, convert it to an ISO (u dont need those LG drives), and then check it with regionfrii and block it with wiibrickblocker (in case u need to)

Nash this is all very helpful, it makes everything clearer for me!
I didn't realise it was possible to stop the update once it had started... I thought turning it off would brick it!

I only want to play backups... I don't have enough time to be doing all that other stuff!

Thanks once again

Well here are questions that I couldn't seem to find the answer to:

First of all, are the updates everyone's referring to the type that let you know they're there (a la Brawl), or are some kinds that install automatically (and therefore you wouldn't even have the option to turn them down if you're unsure)?

Second, is there is a list of games which carry updates on them? That way, we can just be sure to get appropriately-region versions of those games in the first place.

The former.

I've no doubt there is a list somewhere - I've not seen a reliably updated one - of course to protect your underwear from getting twisted you could stick to "in region" games - so the bricking doesn't become an issue at all.

I don't mind that for games which have been released in multiple regions. It's easy enough to get one version as it is another. But what about Japan or European-only games? I guess then, if I can't find a list, I'll have to read up on how to re-regionize it.
