If there is a newbie thread I apologize for not looking first but I'm kinda in a hurry. I leave for vegas in 2 days and would love to have a modded wii. there is a wii key for sale on craigs list.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/ele/726208090.html

can someone tell me or point me in the right direction on how to find out if my wii is compatible and what are my wii's limitations. Is it like how the PSP's use to be (before Pandora) were if you had an old one your one lucky bastard. I updated to 3.3 because i wanted to play brawl, did i screw myself?

any help is as always appreciated.

Weather the wiikey will work for you depends on when you got your wii, not what firmware you have. There are several different chipsets that the modchip connects to and wiikey is only compatable with DMS, D2A and D2B chipsets. The newer D2C and D2C2 chipsets will not work with wiikey. If your wii is less than 8 months old then you almost certenly have a D2C or D2C2 chipset and thus that modchip will be useless to you.

Theres a page somewhere where you can input your wii's serial number and it can tell you what modchip you most likely have, but the only way to be sure is to open it up and see what numbers are on the chip.

And as to the other question... Since your wii is currently unmodded the region you have is the same as whatever region the games you've been playing are from. You say you're leaving for vegas and that dealer in in the new york aria so you're obviously in the US. So if you can play games you buy in US stores then you have an NTSC-U wii.

The Wii firmware has no baring on the Modchip itself. 3.3 firmware has blocked some homebrew applications from running but has not effected running of game backups.

You will need to know what chipset your Wii system has. The Wiikey is only compatible with DMS D2A D2B chipsets. If you have a D2C or D2C2 then you will need a different Modchip.

You can find out what chipset you have by opening up the Wii and checking the chipset itself. You can also use a Wii serial tracker and it will give a estimation of what chipset you have but this is not always accurate. Go HERE on how to open and check on the chipset or by using the Wii Serial Tracker.

To find out what Wii region your system is go to your Wii system settings and look at the top right corner.

3.3U = USA NTSC(U)
3.3J = Japan NTSC(J)
3.3E = Europe PAL
