I have been trying to read on other posts but Im still having some problems and hopefully someone can answer these for me. Im a complete noob, so I apologize in advance.

I got my wii modded with the Argon chip. However, I have no idea which version. How do I check?

I also keep reading about people who update their system. With a modchip, can you 'update' the system/wii when it asks us to, or do we decline that? Can we update a burnt game? For example, I just downloaded Mario Kart wiiscrubbed (although I cant get it working). It's a PAL game and people are saying it'll ask for an update. Do I do it?

I keep hearing of people 'bricking' their system. How does this occur. Since Im in Australia, if I download an NTSC game and try playing it, will it brick it? Can you unbrick? Should I be doing something every time to prevent this?

RegionFrii. What is this? I read a bit about it but not fully understanding it. Is it simple to use? Do I just download an NTSC game, use regionfrii and it changes it to a PAL game? Do I even have to with a modded wii?

Thx guys.

Theres no easy way to check what modchip you have or what firmware its at. And as for upgrading the modchip firmware, if I recall the argon requires a programmer that connects the chip to your PC via USB port.

Going through this one question at a time:
-You can use brickblocker to remove updates from a disk. Some games may not work if the console isn't upgraded to the most recent firmware.
-Updating from a burned game is totally safe and exactly the same as updating from a regular one IF AND ONLY IF they're both from the same region as your wii.
=Again, let it upgrade the firmware if and only if its from the same region as your wii. I believe Australia is PAL so you SHOULD be ok but you should ask someone else since I'm honestly not sure. The safest thing you can do is update the wii from the internet and then brickblock the iso you downloaded to keep it from trying to run the update.

Bricking is caused when you run an update from an out-of-region game. So yes, running an NTSC game on your system and letting it update will brick it. Unbricking is possible though and just requires that you run a game from your region that has a more recent firmware or using the 'unbricking disk'. It's here on the forums somewhere, but I don't think there's one for the newest firmware yet as its only been out for a few days.

RegionFrii is a program that removes the region coding from the disk or change it to another region, meaning it will run on your wii even if you don't have your modchip set to play out of region games. In your example though, even if you change an NTSC game to a PAL one it will still have the NTSC update and will still brick your console.

Hay, anytime. We all gotta start somewhere. But do try searching next time. These questions have all been answered before. And stick to one thread as well.

Thanks for the answers!

I have a new question now.

I downloaded MARIO KART from the following address (at the bottom) and have tried to burn it numerous times. First at 3x, then at 4x, then I patched it with the tools provided in the thread. The system STILL doesnt even recognize it. No clue why.

Any ideas?

Hey Guys,

Im confused as to how the Argon chip works in relation to games from a different region.

OK, so I have a PAL chip. Can I download ANY NTSC or NTSC-J game, use brickblocker and regionfrii and then play it without any problems? Are those programs easy to use?

Also, I want to bring my wii back to Canada after Im done school in Australia. Will I be able to play it on any Canadian tv by just plugging in the AV cables into the TV and the power bar into a power converter?

Thanks!

you obviously didnt read any of the threads, a couple of pointers though from a fellow newbie
1. downloading games is piracy you should buy them
2. all of the threads talk about the speed to burn various games
3. honestly try reading some of the threads u never know u might learn something

actually you can "download" or rip your own bought games but in your entry up above you said you downloaded it from a website, to rip and back up your own store bought copy you can follow the extensive threads which tell you how to do it. you will need a chipped wii to play the burnt backed up games

Ahhhh.... Yeah, I did download MK Wii from a site. I own the original game though (obviously, for the wheel). But I downloaded it because I didnt know how to 'rip' my own games and I wanted to ensure the mod was good. My apologies.

no need to apologise, i think ripping your own game would be the best way to ensure the rip is good, i see alot of image files on torrents and all of them are weird sizes so i assume they are not ripped properly.

Good luck with the ripping fridump and image burn seem to do the job
