Ok i just beat MGS4 the end made no sense to me at all how is big boss still alive n wtf is up wit this zero dude n why is he so important n wtf is liquid trying to do in da whole game. i got some of it but most of MGS4 was confusing. i need help understanding the story to MGS4 i got the other MGSs but this one was hella confusing if someone can tell me the story to it or just give me a link to the story that would be grateful

I don't think u want him to spoil the fun for other gamers posting spoilers in the main thread ????
And would u writie something positive for a change, all the replies from u are either redirecting ppl, or sayin to use a search button, nothing on the topic at all.
I hate ppl that try to raise their post count by stupid replies...
Either say something positive or don't say nothing at all....

You must have very selective reading to only see the posts which I tell people to use the main thread or to search their topic before hand, or that are "stupid" for that matter.

We'll yea i already looked at that link and it doesn't really help me understand da story and i don't wanna reply any of my questions because most of those ppl haven't even beaten the game yet that's why in my title of my topic it says SPOILERS in caps so it should be the person fault if there mad because i told them da ending it says spoilers on my title im just trying to understand the story that's all but thanks for your help.

I could fill a few things in for you but there's a lot I'm not sure of myself, I think the metal gear database just added to the playstation store should answer most of your questions about the story.

Yeah same with me i just don't get the story full stop. When Big Boss and Zero came into it it just made me even more confused.

my memory is a little hazy but ill try to help you. you really need to play MGS3 for the whole big boss thing though. Big Boss and and Big Mama (which you also say in the game) are the parents of liquid and solid snake. Big Boss is really naked snake which is who you play as in MGS3, big mama is really paramedic. Just play MGS3, itll make more sense.
As for Zero, I believe he is originally from the first metal gear, I'm really not sure though. I do know that in MGS4 at the end they make it seem like he has played a big role in the series but he really hasnt. You nver play as him and he isnt in the entire series. His role in MGS4 is more of a role of symbolism I believe. It kinda ends the series by ending the Patriots. Even though it doesnt really matter.

I don't think its possible to sum up metal gear in a small paragraph its simply too complex because one explanation requires another or else the first explanation wont make sense.

Ok, I've beat it 3 times now so i'll try and explain a bit.
Big Boss, what was left of him after snake beat him in MG2, was locked away by the patriots. EVA (Big Mama) and Ocelot rebuilt Big Boss (naked snake) using parts from Liquid and Solidus.
When Snake and Otacon destroyed JD and the other AI's, Big Boss was released from the Patriots grasp and he found Zero (who his, Naked Snake, Commander in MGS3)
Big Boss, Zero, Ocelot, Sigint Para-Medic and EVA formed the Original Patriots.
Sigint was really the DARPA chief from MGS1. Para-Medic was really Dr.Clark who was killed by Gray Fox I think.
EVA (Big Mama) and Ocelot died during MGS4, So now only Zero and Big Boss are the only members left.
Big Boss thinks Zero went too far with the Patriots thing and wanted to stop him so he turned of his life support thing and killed him. The original Idea of the Patriots was to carry on The Boss' will.
The new mutated FOXDIE in Snake was what really killed Big Mama and Ocelot in MGS4 and now it was killing Big Boss.

Sorry for double post. reached limit.
Big Boss says that he understood what The Boss will meant. It was to leave the world the way it was, instead of trying to change it.
It seemed that Snake and Big Boss sort of liked and respected each other in the end.
The new FOXDIE in Snake was killing the old dangerous FOXDIE and so snake would not turn into a walking biological weapon.
Sorry thats all I remember. I may have got bits wrong but Im sure thats all right.

I dunno, maybe not. Im typing these messages on my PS3 on a keyboard so maybe its just the way the PS3 does things.
Im sure it doesnt happen on a PC though.

Liquid Ocelot needed Big Boss's DNA to allow him to get into JD and ultimately controlling SOP and the world.

If i remember correctly... Big Boss was not in MGS2, it was Solidus (The Third Clone... so you have Liquid, Solid & Soldius).
Solidus however was a perfect clone in everyway, liquid & snake were not. Liquid knew he was the lesser of both, which is what he refers to in MGS1 (Shadow Moses).
Solidus however in MGS2 (Sons of the Patriots) was doing what really Snake wanted in MGS4, he was going against the will of the patriots. Of course Raiden kills him...
Well not really... When EVA (Big Mama) shows Snake, the apparently living dead 'Big Boss', it is not Big Boss. That in fact is Solidus! He was kept alive after being killed by Raiden. Remember he is the perfect clone, so his blood / dna is the same as Big Boss's, and therefore the key to the system. Shame for him, but Ocelot kills him mid-way through.
Big Boss however is being kept alive by Zero. He was released after they destroyed the AI's. Now here comes the strange bit, apparently Liquid & Solidus's body parts were added to the body (or lack of) of Big Boss. Therefore he is again living.
Now the only question i have is that when Solidus is thrown into the flames, why EVA jumps into the flames, when she knows that, that is NOT big boss?? So injuring herself for no purpose, and in the end dying.
Another weird thing is that Ocelot is not 'Liquid Ocelot'. The plot so far (MGS1,MGS2) states that he was consumed by Liquid Snakes Arm, which he used as a donor arm, after snake sliced his off. Now thats not true, in fact Ocelot used nano-machines & physics to make himself turn into the persona of Liquid. He was indeed aware mentally he was Ocelot, and just playing as Liquid. He wanted to fool the AI Systems into thinking that he was indeed Liquid, and not Ocelot trying to destroy the will of the patriots.
In the end, if you look at the story, Solid Snake was used as a pawn on the patriots all the way through... in MGS4 the patriots again use the RAT Patrol & Debrin as help for Solid to complete the mission and kill Ocelot, and any rebellion. The AI's thought that he would not destroy them, and they backed certain sides in the battle.
To show you him as a pawn:
MGS1 Shadow Moses - Mission REX - Actually he killed the rebellion against the Patriots using FOXDIE - Darpa Chief, Liquid, Ocelot (kind of).
MGS2 - Destroy Metal Gear (Again) - But actually helped kill another rebellion against the Pariots - Solidus e.t.c
MGS4 - Kill Ocelot, who wants world domination. Actually he killed again the uprising, EVA, Liquid, Naomi (she knew too much) e.t.c
That adds to the confusion i know, but i like the way he was always helping the Patriots, he just didnt know it.
