OK i just went and had my wiikey installed on the spot (took an hr) and basically said if i had any problems to contact him but i want to try this first...
When i turn my wii on i cant tell the difference whether the chip has been installed or not (im starting to think now that i got ripped off and the guy didnt actually do anything to it... but other people have been and said it was fine...) should there be a noticeable difference between a normal wii and a modded one?
Secondly it just doesnt read any disc... like it hates everything, ive made like a thousand coasters and im starting to get VERY annoyed...
I heard that before you can do anything you have to run a config or something? So i downloaded the 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 configs (1.4gb file size when it burned) none of them work and it doesnt read wii backups, GC backups or system dvds like config) that ive burned and im getting very frustrated coz ive just shelled out all this money on a wiikey and its not even working...
Something is telling me im doing something wrong but ive spent the last 4hrs going nuts coz ive literally run out of options...
What the hell am i doing wrong!?
ive been using good quality media (Verbatim 16x DVD-R), a good quality burner (Philips cant remember the model number but ive burnt about 50 successful 360 games with that thing)
Im on 3.3 firmware but people say that it works still so im guessing it doesnt have anything to do with the upgrade...
I heard 3.3E stops config discs... dunno if thats true... but seriously im going absolutely nuts here i need someone to help me out here! please!!
Just in case youre confused i have a 3.3E wii with a wiikey that was put in today, so i dont know what firmware the wiikey is or anything, im completely at a loss...
There's no obvious difference between a modded and unmodded wii, so don't worry that your menu still looks the same.
However if you cant read any backups at all I would take it back to the guy. He should have tested it before giving it back to you but have him test it.
You shouldn't need to run the config disk to get games working, at least not if they're from your same region. You said you're on 3.3E so make sure the games you're downloading are PAL region.
what about gamecube discs? i got a wind waker PAL that didnt work for GC and stuff... he gave me his number to ring if i had problems so i think i might have to give him a buzz tomorrow, but im trying to exhaust all possibilities basically before ringing the guy...
It wont run in-region gamecube backups? Something is definatly wrong with the chip in that case. Either your installer didnt test his solder points or something came loose. Whichever is the case you need to talk to him about fixing it.
Try the WII backup games first instead of GC games. There's a handful amount of chips that have problems booting up GC games, depending on the region of the game. This is almost never the case for the WII games. If you still have problems, contact the person who modded your WII.
