I bought my wii when it first came out. I recently discovered the modding scene and wish to buy a modchip for my wii.

I want a modchip to play my backups but I dont know which one is the best. Im also looking to spend the least amount of money whilst, having full function of all wii backups.

So what is the best deal?

Here is the information i received when i entered my serial in the WiiTracker.

Your Drive Chip is most likely GC2R-D2A.

Your Drive Pins are most likely not cut.

Go for the Wiikey. Make sure it's genuine.

Thank you for the fast reply!
Is this a reputable source to purchase a genuine wiikey from?

http://www.foundmy.com/

Also, does it play all games, even new games or games that have not come out yet.

If i update my wii firmware will it mess anything up?

So far it does play all games. But take region compatibility into consideration. There is a list floating around.

I use modchipcentral myself but that site is reputable.

Updating your FW SO FAR has not caused any ill-effects to the Wiikey. Just keep your Wiikey updated to the latest (1.9s) and you should be fine.

I have a Mac Pro Desktop computer and how would I know if my DVD Drive can rip the wii or gc games?
I read up that any dvd writing drive can burn wii games sucessfully but was a bit confused on whether my drive would actually Rip the games successfully.

Ok thanks,
Look I dont think my drive is on there but is there ANY possibility whatsoever that it would work with ripping the discs? But if not, I believe I have an LG drive in my old computer and i'll just use that if thats the case.

There's always a possibility - the only sure way is to try it.

Ok thanks.

And one last thing, lol.
You know thanks for all this help guys.

Anyway, there is a way to rip it through my wii correct? Would i need a specific program to rip it through my wii than transfer it to my computer.

Also, since the games are pretty big and wouldnt fit on a 2gb card when ripping, is there a way to put it together after or rip like, half at a time etc?

Nevermind, I have found the guide to backup with sd card.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/620574

That is the link if anyone else needs it.

But I have one problem.

What is a gamecube SD Adapter?
Can't I just buy an 2gb sd card and a reader to connect it to my computer?

- gamecube SD Adapter (gecko or selfmade)
- SDCard
