Hi everyone,

I purchased YDL v6 last week, the install went ok and i have the OS working. The reason i purchased YDL was to do the following:

- SNES
- VLC Media player
- Windows Media Player

I have been looking at guides and forums to try and get it working but i just dont know, so i thought you might be able to help me. I have no Linux experience so its all new to me!!!

I just dont know how to install the 3 apps mentioned above. I have opened the terminal logged in as root typed yum install vlc, same for the snes but it never works. Do i have to do something else before this in order to get it working, like place the .exe file somewhere on the linux directory?

I get the following when typing 'yum install vlc'

[root@localhost ~]# yum install vlc
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguements
http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linu...ta/repomd.xml: [Errno 4]
IOError: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary faliure in name resolution')>
Typing other mirror.
Error: Cannot open/read repomd.xml fgile for repository: freshprms-frpm
[root@localhost ~]#

What is all this about? The connection to the internet is not setup on linux. I really just want to know how to install snes, vlc and media player from complete novice point of view. What am i doing wrong or need to do? The guides make it look so easy... am i missing something??

Any help would be great!

Thanks for your time
Paul

i was downloading it off the torrents but it was taking far too long so i bought it off ebay for £2 save the messing around.

I probably answered my own question regarding the internet as it is currently not setup, i didnt realise it downloaded it from the servers.

Do you know where there is a full detailed guide to setup the internet with and without security? I went on terrasoftsolutions site but that guide wasnt much good and it still isnt working.

Cheers for the replies and help!

I believe Lunix uses something called IPTABLES for internet security, it is a little like a software firewall, do a Google search on it and you will find more information.
