There is always something wrong with my router. Every game i play on ps3 online it always disconnects me. For example when i play gta 4 it disconnects me around 5-10mins into gameplay and other games does the same.

When i play at my uncles house it never disconnects at all. I have the same router and internet speed (rogers extreme) as him other people have told me to set some stuff in my router website but my uncle never set anything on his router website.

How come i always disconnect then?

Try assigning your PS3 a static IP address and place it into your routers DMZ (assuming it has the option).

Sounds like you have a Port Conflict. I had the same problem until I set up a static IP on the PS3 and set up dedicated Ports on my router. When the PS3 would go online, it would take my PC's IP address and kick my PC off line. The PC would automatically redial to get back on the net and kick my PS3 off line.

I did put my ps3 on static and DMZ but it didnt work. Im not sure if i did it right. I followed this other guys intrustion by making the ip adress 192.168.1.100 and the dns stuff the same ip as the defualt router 192.168.0.1 but when i test it it fail with the error 80710102 about the DNS.

So then i used my computer ip adress and used the openDNS website's DNS server it worked.

How did you set up the dedicated ports on your router?

You will have a NAT Type 2 as long as connected, once disconnected you wont have it any more. Setting up Dedicated Ports and a Static IP is the main purpose. It will eliminate Port Conflicts.

I was going to try to find the set up for you're router but I'm not having any luck finding a set up manual for it. Can you access your router with http://192.168.1.1
I may be barking up the wrong tree. I'm assuming that you have the PS3 and a PC connected to the same Router / Modem.

What Router make do you have?

Setting up a static IP and dedicated ports is basically the same as putting the PS£ in a DMZ. If you tell me you router make and model I may be able to get you some more info.

some annoying and interesting facts for you.

- My router and PS3 support UPnP and should be enabled for best results.
- My ps3 has always been in DMZ on a Linksys WRT54G router
- My ps3 has always had a static IP with router address as DNS.
- My ps3's mac address is added to mac filter only allow wireless list.
- My ps3's IP address has like 8-9 important ports opened (redundantly since it's in DMZ always)
- In Wireless connection 80% of the time I'm fine, 20% of the time Playstation network won't connect usually DNS error. Web browsing always works.
- In wired connection 90% of the time I'm fine, 10% of the time Playstation network won't connect usually DNS error. Web browsing always works.

The fun is when I decide to do internet connection tests. sometimes Playstation Network fails, usually UPnP fails, and usually NAT Type fails, sometimes they all work, its kinda random, but usually wired gives bests results.

P.S. At my other house on DLink wireless router connected wireless I never had a problem.

Good luck

I feel for you. I have the Linksys WRT54GS and had DNS errors frequently. I would not recomend this router to anyone else. BUT, once I set up my router like the link in one of my prior post, it has worked great. Other brands of routers make it simple. With the WRT54GS, you have to understand how Net crap works.

Best thing to do s get a different router.

Here in the UK the ISP I'm with, Be, supply a Thompson router, many Be customers with a PS3 have found that these Thompson routers wont let their PS3 online and if they do they get kicked after a few minutes. For those with a BT Home Hub, that's a Thompson router as well so if you cant get your PS£ online thats why.

We have found that the best router to use is a Netgear router, either a DG834G v3 or v4; or a DG834GT, or the bit more expensive DG834N. After using this router noone has had their PS3 kicked from the server or anything else.
