Hello!

I've been reading quite a lot over the last few days and when I get an answer to a question it seems I spring up about ten more. I have a couple questions I'm sure you're sick of answering, but I'm hazing on the answers and want to be sure before I do anything.

Basically, I'm interested in putting a modchip my Wii. I found a thread on here talking about the GC2-D2C chip in Wii's. I put my serial number in the wii serial tracker and it told me there's a 50% chance I have one, and a 50% chance my pins are not cut.

If I have a GC2-D2C, does that mean the WiiKey wouldn't work in my Wii? Is there a better mod chip to use (from what I can tell, WiiKey is used by most people).

Also, I've seen a lot of talk about using specific dvd burners. Is it important to have those to burn back up copies of games, or just to ready them? I found a grecko SD card adapter that lets you put games on SD cards after coping them using the WiiKey. Is this method as reliable, or would I be better off buying a new DVD burner?

Thanks guys. BTW, I love this forum. There's tons of information on here.

You seem more informed than most newbies so I'm sure you really did do some reading, but these are still questions that come up several times a week.

Wiikey only works on DMS, D2A and D2B chipsets. If you have a D2C then you need a different modchip. D2Pro, Wasabi and Infectus, among others, are valid choices. Also, if you have a D2C you don't have to worry about cut pins. Only some D2B chipsets had cut legs.

And any DVD burner will work for burning wii games, but only some DVD drive models can READ wii game disks. However, those specific drives have gotten rather difficult or expensive to track down. So its cheaper to use the gecko.

I seriously should put together a catchall reply with answers to all the newbie questions. Then I can just copypaste it every time this comes up.
