Well where do i begin? i'm a gaming freak and love my technology but the psp has got me stumped, i currently came in ownership of a phat psp with 3.93 firmware but have grown bored with the usual look and feel of the psp so i decided to chip it......
I want to do it myself but i don't know where to start everybody seems to know the lingo and abbreviations while i am a freshie and in dire need of some help! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE IF THERE IS ANY HERO OR HEROINE OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP ME SLAY THE DRAGON THAT IS THE MODIFIED PSP I'LL BE IN YOUR DEBT.

thats a very odd way of putting it. lol

so ill be you knight in shinning armor lol

you need pandoras battery. the psp is all soft mod no need for any chips.

i would advise buying a datel tool battery which is a read made pandoras battery. (unless you realy want to do it all and hard mod the battery)

then you'll need make a magic memory stick th use with the pandoras battery id suggest one about 512mb or 1gb, 256 if fine to though.

for a guide you will need to use this one (note it wont work on vista)

link

hope that helps

Sir Driver you have proven yourself worthy of merit but alas i do have one more question....would you be so kind as to explain the difference between a HARD and SOFT mod? What is the advantage and disadvantage?

well basicly a soft mod is a modification of the software. for example you modifiy a program to do something else

a hard mod if a hardware modification. for example you cut a chip of a curcit to bypass something.

with pandoras battery you will need a custom firmware psp to do the hard mod. if not then it'll be the hard mod or buying a ready made one.

Ok so i guess i want to soft mod it. Although the instructions are quite exquisite i got confused at the getting started section the instructions say to insert the memory card and copy, format etc...which psp do i start on, the slim one thats already been modded or the phat one i want to mod? on the slim one or the phat one? And my psp is currently a 3.93 firmware would that affect anything or change anything i have to do?
I thank you again sir Driver

right the guide is not the best

so here it is

(put the phat battery in the slim as the slim battery doesnt work well on th phat)

1. put the 256mb-1gb memcard into the modded psp.
2. go to settings->system settings->format memory stick (this will delete everything on it)
3. connect the psp to the computer and download these files
a)upms
b)1.50 update ofw
c)3.71 update ofw
d)3.80 update ofw
e)3.90 update ofw
4)unrar upms and copy the .cso to the iso folder
5)rename 1.50 to 150.pbp, 3.71 to 371.pbp, 3.80 to 380.pbp and 3.90 to 390.pbp
6)copy all the updates to the root of the memory stick
7)load up umps on the psp
8)do the steps on upms
a) 1. -> make normal ipl
b) 2. -> back up eeprom and make pandoras battery
c) 3. -> use dc version5 and press o to not copy the 1.50 eboot
8)exit and take the battery and memory card out
9)put the memory card into the bricked/ofw psp and then put the battery in
10)choose dc version5
11)press L + R to back up the NAND (important)
12)then away you go installing 3.90m33
13)once finished put the ac in the bricked/ofw psp and take the battery out
14) turn it on and put the battery in
15) load up upms and install the fatmsmod
16) load upms back up and then go to the menu
17) go to 2. and click restore eeprom
18)now you have everything sorted just install the 1.50 kernel add on if you are using a phat psp

soz if any of that is wrong but i did just type that up just now but it should all work iv used it before myself
