gentlemen i'm at the end of my rope (figuratively speaking). i apologize ahead of time but quite frankly i've exhausted every board i could find and have yet to find an answer.
i just got back my ps3 from sony (it had stopped playing discs; amazing turn-around time from sony by the way) and for some reason now when playing movies the color is for lack of a better word 'off'. all the colors just seems muted, i thought it was just the red/white/yellow cords so i went out and bought sony component cables. this resulted in all the movies having a reddish-pink film on the screen.
now i am using a sd sony trinitron tv (can't afford a hdtv yet), but even when using the red/white/yellow's everything used to work before i sent it in. the kicker of everything is that all my games (resistance, cod, etc.), and data dvd?s all play fine. i mean the colors are all perfect, or as perfect as you can get without hdmi. called sony obviously the next day and they already have another box on the way, which is great but they couldn't figure out the problem either. i went through every setting i could think of (display, bd/dvd playback etc.) and still nothing changed.
i'm hoping that maybe one of you wise fellows (i hear flattery will get me everywhere) might have either experienced this or know of a fix. i'd hate to have to send it back again just to find out that there was something i could've done. thanks very much in advance and i apologize if i may be rehashing an old topic ....
-a grateful noob

Try changing the "BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI)" to RGB from Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr

Hold your finger over the power button for no less than 7 secs, this will reset the console allowing it to make automatic display settings.

appreciate the assistance sudds.
held the button, powered it up again. games and data all play fine still, but still no luck with dvd's or bd's. i think i'm going to have to just suck it up and send it back. like i said the turn-around time was great i was just hoping to avoid it all together.
i really do appreciate the help though, especially considering i'm a nobody here.

No bother Cham.
Your using component cables, red, green & blue with audio red, white, is this correct?
Set the 1080p/24 output to 'On' rather than 'Automatic' and the BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI) to 'RGB'.

It has to be your settings, found afew people with the same problem, and they resolved it by switching to RGB from Y/br etc.
Am all out of ideas mate... unless you ring Sony and see what they have to say.
Try resetting to default settings and start again from there.

If the reset didn't work it could be a faulty system. Did you get the same one back or a refurbished one? Can you tell? Which PS3 do you have?

Were both of these a free repair by Sony or did you have to pay $150 for the system once then again for the 2nd repair?

first one was a launch console so it was way past the warranty time, that one was 150+tax. they sent back the exact same ps3 just fixed the original problem (had stopped playing bd's,dvd's, and cd's).
i just sent it back yesterday in the pre-paid overnight box that they sent, and according to ups it got there sometime this morning. second time though didn't cost anything because it was within the new 30 (possibly 90 day)warranty for the repaired console. just kind of hoping that they don't send me back the same exact one again with a new set of problems or worse without fixing the existing one. on the other hand i think i'd be scared witless to receive a re-furbished one.

Even if they send you a refurbished one it doesn't matter. Atleast it works. Yours is going to be refurbished anyways.

Did you have a 60GB to start off with or a 40? If you had a 40 and they upgraded it to a 60, awesome deal, if not, still a great deal, you got a new system.

I'm guessing you lost all your data, or were they nice enough to transfer it over?
