Is there a difference between Dvd X Copy platinum
and Nero Recode. Which one is a better program to use
and which one gives better quality.
Is there a big picture quality between these programs.
thanks.

technically, yer you can burn a movie to a CDr or RW with a CD burner..... but we call them either VCDs or SVCDs which baically mean they are DVD movies onto CDr discs they have to be compressed an awful lot but they are Tv quality so it aint that bad if you have no DVD burner
just search the forum up at the top in the little white search box the word VCD or SVCD and you will probably get quides programs etc i personally wouldent know because i only do DVDs
sorry hope i av elped a bit reply and let us no if weve elped ya

Not so -LoNeR-,
Schlumpa, if you have a DVD ROM and can play DVD's then you can use DVDShrink to rip and edit (if you wish), and compress your DVD and then use Nero to burn it to a CD in a Mini-DVD format. A Mini-DVD format allows you to use your VOB's to produce a picture superior to a SVCD or a VCD :-)
Pretty easy to do, DVDShrink can be navagated in 3 mouse clicks and about the same in Nero -

On the subject of miniDVD, it should also be mentioned that most DVD players don't recognize them because they don't look for DVD files once they determine that the media is a CD, but it's supported by a lot more newer players than old ones. My Apex 1010W, for example, plays them. It's my preferred format for TV captures.

vurbal,
Quote: it should also be mentioned that most DVD players don't recognize
FYI, a Mini-DVD format is EXACTLY like a normal DVD. It will play on 98% of the new Standalones and more older players than a +R DVD. I haven't played it yet on my washing machine but I bet it'll play on "spin cycle" :))
Schlumpa,
Open up Nero classic, the little choice window in the upper left of the New Complilation window choose CD, then directly under that, close to the bottom of all the offered icons you'll find "mini-DVD" :-)
Pretty much it doesn't matter - you need a DVD ROM on your PC. - without a way to play DVD's on your PC you are stuck :-(
The only way you can get a DVD movie on your system is by P2P, then that would be a "Pirate" movie, against the law and you shouldn't look for help from here as we only deal with personally owned media -

and a simple answer u will get... ok
where to begin.. there is no single "best program" for copying DVDs compression etc, but there are a few ones that are recomended
firstly u want to know if u can fit a whole length movie to a single CDr? yes you can do that
the format is VCD or SVCD (you will notice that they are in blue writing click on them and it will take u to a page to further explain both formats ,i think)
which Nero? 6 to 6.3 will do miniDVD if in the top right hand corner you have it set on DVD not CD
at the top of the site there are certain links eg Guides, software etc click both on guides and on software from there u should find ouot everything u wanted to know
if you dont reply on this thread and we will try to help you

I'm perfectly aware of what a miniDVD is. I make several of them a week from TV captures. I've also tested them in many older DVD players and they won't play on most. That's matches what Doom9 has to say about it and what users have reported to the DVDRHelp database. No doubt it depends on what kind of DVD players you try playing them on, and it's not exactly a well documented feature so it's hard to say exactly how many older players support it, but my experience says not many.

Let me know if it does. I may be in the market for a washing machine soon. ;)

Shammy,
First, putting your e-mail on our forum is against our rules, actually it's a rule setup to protect you from having people contact you with things other than friendly help. Be careful.
Next, Nero can only burn DVD's - you need a program to rip and in most cases compress your DVD files before you can burn them to a blank DVBD -
Here is everything you need, the program is called DVDShrink and will do 95% of all your DVD?s. Follow the guide, step by step and it will be hard to go wrong. If you have trouble, come back, tell us what kind of computer you have and explain in detail what problem you ran into -
