FW2.36 Disables Game upscaling 1080p

I installed the 2.36 firmware the other day and since then when I load a game my screen flickers and drops to 720p whereas before it would upscale to 1080p, there's a noticeable difference (Uncharted Drake's Fortune) and Sony have said they now let the game decide it's best display resolution (720p for Uncharted) and there's no upscaling possible from there. I don't understand the reasoning behind not allowing you to pick the resolution you want to display it at and the loss of upscaling for all the sub 1080p titles. Just gotta wait now and hope they see sense and put it back the way it was in a future firmware.

my ps3 was never upscaling PS3 games.

I only got mine a few days ago so the 1st thing i checked when i took it out of the box was games, blu ray and dvd all running at 1080p and all was fine till i installed the update...thought i was imagining it when i rang sony to see what was up since they said it would play at the res stated on the back of the box. A quick google shows I wasn't imagining it - loadsa ppl been playin it at 1080p and using the upscale feature:

To DVD and PS2 games i have seen upscaling,BD is their job to play at 1080p but i cant remember my PS3 upscaling PS3 games, and i must have 5-6 games.
I dont say that you are wrong or anything, but i am pretty sure that i havent seen any PS3 based games upscaled.At least to my ps3.
Some one may enlighten us.

COD4 and MGS4 both have an actual resolution of 720p and are upscaled to 1080p, I've never looked into encharted. Haze's resolution isn't HD so it upscales to 720p.
