Right now, I have my PS3's video going directly to my TV via HDMI. My receiver does not have any HDMI ports so I'm running the regular red and white audio cables to my receiver and have it processed to Dolby Pro Logic II. Would I notice a considerable difference if i ran an optical cable from my PS3 to my receiver instead? I eventually plan to get a new receiver and setup so I can just run the HDMI cable to the receiver itself and get the full quality audio. But for now, I was just wondering if it'd give me a significant improvement.

My second question is more of a just a general cable question but does apply to my first question as well. All these cables like Monster are ridiculously expensive. Is it really worth it? What exactly makes those (and others) so much better? I wanted to know if, and before, i went out and bought an optical cable for my PS3.
