Ok I have a phat 3.71m33-4 psp and I don't know if I should upgrade to 3.90m33, 4.01m33 or just stay 3.71m33 so here are some questions to help me decide.

-I've heard that 3.90m33 can play all psx games. is that true, and if it is true can 4.01m33 do the same

-can i still play gba snes and neogeo on 3.90m33, 4.01m33 cfw

-can I downgrade back from 3.90m33/4.01m33 to 3.71m33 without pandora.

just go to the newest fw its will likely work just as well as any other.

i dont like answering these type of questions its not up to use to decide for you.

if you like the fw your on then stick but if you want to play games that need higher fw then update howz that

whats up dr1ver,

to answer your question, mine is 3.80m33-4
I dont use or better yet have not "tried" to use a lot of the applications like comic book reader or google maps or take a picture of your psp(sorry dont know the specific names for those things) and custom themes and cold boots, game boots and custom fonts yet...........basically I havent tried them yet.

but as far as from what "I like" about 3.80m33-4

1. snes, genesis, nes, picodrive(sega cd, mega cd), NCDZPSP, MVSPSP, CPS1PSP and CPS2PSP ...all emulators working <<<<very important to me
....and I'm still working on other emulators to get to work on it..

2. ISO/CSO's...all working.

3. PLAYSTATION 1 GAMES.....all working.....but then again I have not tried multi disk PSX games yet....

4. the CFW is also running the latest psp rips i.e. naruto ultimate hero 2 and hellboy

5. WIFI works cause I played CFW to CFW with my buddy(some lag but not to bad) and I was able to check my email when I near his wireless router.

now I have not done enough testing I think
1. I have not tried to play mp3 or wma in the new "MUSIC FOLDER" yet.
2. I have not tried to play videos in that new "VIDEO FOLDER" yet.
3. I have not tried to use the Flash Player that I enabled yet.
4. I have not tried to play online with someone on the other side of the planet ...

5. But I have tried maybe 2 Homebrew games that looked really cool that did not work or maybe I just did something wrong they are "MARIO WAR" AND "HALO PSP"..
still looking for a guide to explain this .....hint hint. but remember I still need more testing with more Homebrew games before I can say they just plain dont work(any suggestions would be great)....also I have not read anywhere a guide made specifically for 3.80m33-4 custom cold boots, custom xmb themes, custom gameboots and custom fonts. All the ones I see say for 3.90m33 and higher...but I'm also still researching this. I have read some that say they are "for 3.71m33 and higher though..

hope this helps.

I have 3.80 M33-4. I have not had the urge to upgrade yet, but 4.01 M33 may get me.

On my 3.80 M33-4 I have working emulators for NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA and N64. I am running the Comic Book reader, and the new Video and Music folders work great.
There is no problem with my 8GB card and all iso/cso work great, as do all PSX games (including multi disc games) if you install Popsloader.
All new games work even the ones that say 3.95 FW is needed.

So basically, until a games comes out that uses the new 4.xx kernal, 3.80 M33-4 is the my favorite CFW out there.

Have you played any Homebrew games on yours yet that work?

like Mario War,Halo Psp, or if worst comes to worst "bejeweled"?

I havent tried any homebrew games yet... but I cant imagine that there would be a problem so long as you know which need the 1.50 kernal and which do not.

Team m33 switched it off on the newer fw so it doesnt matter what fw the game needs it should still play it.

the reason i dont like answering these questions it that im on 3.71m33 and have no problems but people will argue that 3.80m33 is better than 3.71m33 and so on.

@krometek try this one its rediculouse but very fun [link]

You know Dr1ver, maybe you should just leave your note off the thread to begin with. There are folks trying to get information about their gadgets so if your not educated on the subject, then just shut up... For anyone who is still interested, I figure go with the newest firmware you want. I am more than certain that the folks that write the code for this stuff have taken into consideration all of your reasons and doubts. A good rule of thumb would be... If the firmware is still too new for you (i.e. all the bugs may not be worked out) then go with a tried and true version till the cost is clear. I on the other hand like to flirt with disaster, so playing with the newest and latest is just the only way to go. Just be REALLY SURE to educate yourself on the in/outs of FW upgrading. That way the installation will go smoother and you'll enjoy the out come a lot better.

Dr1ver you are the man thank you, I will try it first chance I get. by the way did you ever get cps1psp cps2psp mvspsp and ncdzpsp working? I am currently working on Picodrive for mega and sega cd
sonic cd, eternal champions, and lords of thunder working!

problems though ....popful mail-started up once but never again freezes during sonic sprinkling the sega logo
soul star-after logo sprinkling , sound plays and a frame of outerspace freezes, do you have anything on this?

also, after I wrote my last post I downloaded another version of "halo psp"that was way bigger in size than the first one I downloaded and it worked! it was like playing a really crappy version of halo but I still give props to the programmer for even attempting it. So yes Homebrew does work on my 3.80m33-4

O i though it looked fun lol

there are a couple of good ones but its hard to find them

best bet to go here - http://dl.qj.net/index.php?&catid=108&na...nloads&dir=desc

i put them in decending order of downloads so try the top couple

psp dooms good but its more of a emulator than a homebrew game

Nice Dr1ver,

I will definately visit that link after work today, thank you

hey the "smashGpsp" is very fun! but its soooooooo glitchy!
I downloaded like a hundred + of characters for it, but now it wont even go to the menu. I only put up to the "M's" ending with Master Cheif from halo. So now Im going to start removing some characters to see if it will work again. If you have any info on this particular game please share, peace out man

edit: I removed a lot of characters and left about 31 inside and it worked again

I have a 3.90 m33-3/1.50, i first started with 1.50/3.40 OE-A, which then upgraded to 3.90 m33-3 thinking it will be better including that some games work with this firmware like god of war, however after upgrading i put all my files back on and saves. When i tried like fifa 08 and medal of honor heroes 2, it couldn't read my saves and had to start al over again (not all saves didnt work).

Also another thing is that my homebrew apps didnt work after upgrading, like gameboy advance emulator and the snes. I downloaded this other snes and advance emulators nd they worked, but still other apps dont which they did before upgrading.
Can any1 also help me out or tell me if it is a bug on this firmware where homebrew apps dont work, well not all of them.
Is it worth downgrading or upgrading???
Thanks.

I'm currently have 2 psps. The first one is running 3.71 M33-4 with the 1.50 kernal add-on and here's my input about it.

ISO/CSO's:All work perfectly fine.
Emulators:All work for me,I prefer the newer ones where it does not need the 1.50 kernal and the additional eboot folder.Nonetheless, both types work.
PSX Games:Concerning all CFW's 3.XX and above, most games work on all types of CFW's,just sometimes that some games and some don't on certain CFW's,and that's where popsloader comes in handy.Point is,most people test the PSX games on 3.71 as that is the firmware where most of the games are compatible.
Themes:Not a problem for me.I either use CXMB or just flash it.
Functionality:Like a charm

The second PSP is running 4.01 M33-2 with the 1.50 kernal add-on.

ISO/CSO's:Ditto.
Emulators:Ditto.
PSX Games:Bleh, one of my games didn't work,so I know I'm gonna have to use popsloader for that.Look above in the 3.71 section.
Themes:Talk about ergonomics,I love CTF Themes.CXMB works fine as well.
Functionality:Ditto.

I have yet to try the other firmwares, and I don't plan to.All in all,it's up to you.

PSP #1:Fat,3.71 M33-4 CFW with 1.50-2 kernal add-on.
PSP #2:Slim,3.71 M33-4 CFW
