I've been searching for a couple of months now, but still haven't found a good guide explaining in detail, 'how to softmod an xbox 360'. I would be so grateful if anyone can help me. i have found the guide about flashing the dvd drive or something, but i was wondering is it possible to softmod the xbox 360 hard drive? so that you can play games from your hard drive?

There are no mods that deal with the harddrive the only thing available is the firmware hacks for the drive.The current modchips out right now use the same technique flashing the firmware of the drive.You have to find out what type of drive you have first before modding,and the way you mod it depends on the drive.If you have a Hitachi 79 drive you need to get a chip such as the Maximus 79 Passkey or use a programmer for the TSOP chip.If it is a benq or samsung you can flash them without the need of a chip.The Lite-On drives are the only drives that can't be flashed yet.The best thing to do after you find out what drive you have is read the textbook on flashing any type of drive.It will probably have it located in the text book,but if you have a Lite-On then you can't mod it at all.Get the textbook off this link http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=61.html and read it carefully,because you can mess up your drive if you don't do it properly.
i already now that my dvd drive is benq, and i have instructions on how to flash, its just that, i want to know if there is any cheaper methods, and what is the sata card thing! im really stuck!

Flashing a Benq drive is already pretty cheap. As long as you have access to desktop PC. The most it would cost you would be under $30 or less. Lets say $20 for a VIA 6421 PCI SATA card online and $10 for a Torx-12 driver.
You'll need to buy the type of card I mentioned, because 360 drives have SATA connections and the VIA chipsets are the only ones that work with Benq drives.
