Updating a Wii from a scrubbed image?

I got a friend who has a US wii, with 3.0u firmware on it. He has a wiikey with config 1.2 or 1.3 or something.

He is trying to play a few of the new games, like Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Mario kart, Speed racer etc...

Now, Is it safe from him to update the wii from Mario kart? it is a US version of the game, BUT it was scrubbed.

I looked and looked and I can find nothing on what scrubbed games do to the update, I'm pretty sure they keep it in tact, but I want to make sure before he bricks his wii. It is asking to update on almost any game he tries. Anyone got any information on this?

As long as the disk is from the same region then I can't see why it shouldn't work, but you could always just update over network connection if you liked.

He will need to update his wiikey to 1.9s though to play these games.

Actually 1.9s is only needed for smash bros. All other games will work with 1.9g
