there will be very little time when the computer is used and the PS3 at the same time (i'd almost estimate NEVER used at teh same time)

i read that the wireless N are stronger then the G but do i even need it?

to give you a rundown, the PS3 will be in the room connecting to the computer room, the router would be located 20 feet away from the PS3 but would be through a wall.

would i need an "N" or a G or does this stuff not even matter?

all things equal cost will play a role for me in what i get.

i dont know geek speak.

the ps3 is g compatible but not n compatible. so if you bought an N router you wouldn't get the benefits of having N. The ps3 will still work on an N router. I have a Linksys N router and haven't had any problems with it.

Like Yamaha5 said, the PS2 is Wireless G (not Wireless N) compatible. When you do get a router, do NOT get a no-name one... I suggest D-link or Linksys. If the PS3 will only be 20ft from the router, is going wired out of the question???

wired is definitely the way to go? i can wire it if need be, i just have to go into the crawl space and run an ethernet cable which i can do but i really hate that crawl space!

If you want to go wireless your best bet is to get a decent wifi access point D-Link here in NZ DO NOT preform very well. Perhaps a dynalink, 3COM?

I have a LinkSys Wireless G Router but to be honest wireless sucks.
I avoid wireless where possible and only have it in my house for my laptop so I can use it in the garden, etc.

My main PC and PS3 are both cabled as the connections are more stable for playing games, etc. Personal preference.....

I use wired, for a couple of reasons...

1. My PS3 is like 4ft from my router
2. I stream video from my PC using TVersity Media Server
3. Wired is ALWAYS more stable (and it's faster too)

i bought a D Link wireless router but i think i'm going to wire it anyway and just use the wireless for if/when i get a laptop instead of the desktop.

I have a linksys WRT54GS. It took some learning to get it to work properly by getting a consistant NAT Type 2 connection. It works fine now but I wish my PS3 was wired.
