Has anyone encountered issues with the latest Wii system update and a d2pro?

I just performed a system update to my Wii with a d2c (D2pro modded with the 19-wire install) via the network, not a disc.

Prior to the update, original and backup discs played properly. After the update, all backup discs are unreadable and display an error message for a disc eject and system reset. All original games (Sports, Fit, etc) I have tried report as a ? on the disc channel.

Has anyone encountered an issue like this? My system is NTSC and the update reports 3.3U, so I don't think it's a semi-brick NTSC/PAL issue. Could the mod have bee flashed/overwritten by the update? Anyone know how to fix this? I plan to disconnect the power to the mod chip to see if that does anything.

Thanks!

the nintendo update could not write to the mod chip in anyway, but it certainly sounds like something has got screwed up somewhere.

[edit] do original disks work even though they report as "?"

The original discs in the disc channel show the disc spinning as it loads, then it reports a big ? that it cannot read the disc. This is better than backups which cause a lot of clicking noise from the drive, as if it is a bad load. Neither original nor backup discs play, but I do have access to the will channels and the system settings.

I have also already tried a system memory format, but that had no effect.

Why not try little by little.
Did you install your own D2Pro? Is so. Then you could start by uninstalling it. And try the original game disc to see if it reads them. If it's positive then update your wii back again to version 3.3U since you reformatted the wii. After this try out you reading the original games again. And if everything goes perfectly then go back with the D2Pro. Of course if it doesn't work you modchip could have died. Remember it's "hardware" and even though it has a life span it could die earlier than expected.
Hopefully your D2Pro is not fried.
Off course if your wii works perfectly without the D2Pro then you'll have to buy another modchip if not, then your dvd drive could have gone kaput. Sorry =(

Do the test and tell us how it came out.

Doing a memory format will not change the firmware of your wii

Interesting. I was actually about to try format too. But they had told me before that it didn't make any difference but well now more than one person has confirmed that the reformatting doesn't not change the firmware, thanks. Anyway I keep strong with the idea of uninstalling the d2Pro and tryout without. Hopefully is just a mod chip fried instead of the DVD-DRIVE messed up.

Problem solved! Simple user error. No case opening or hardware work required. :-P

Heads up for anyone else performing this 3.3u system update. After the system update it informs you there are new "Parental controls" added. I said, ok and forgot about it. You need to go into the system settings and then select the parental controls again and say "no." Without that simple software selection, you get the issues I encountered and believe you semi-bricked your system.

All original and backup discs are working. Proven again the 3.3u update does not affect the d2pro.

Thanks for all the help. I hope my idiocy helps someone else in the same situation.

Glad you got it sorted, good that you came back and explained the solution for future reference. Most people just leave threads hanging.

That means that buy having the parental control activated you semi-bricked your wii? How is this? If the firmware is not affected.

No, when he updated he inadvertently activated parental controls which caused the problem. Turning them off again resolved the problem.

I see. Nintendo itself is bugging. XD Now I know that if something so happens then I should check the parental Control. *I love Afterdawn*
(Installed my wiikey and works like a charm) =)

Hi, I am a newbie. I have Wii running on 3.1U. Can some one tell me how to upgrade the firmware to 3.3U please? I can play some copied dvd disks but but a lot of the disks cant be read by the console. Mine is a NSTC US console. Any advise please or is it also due to parental control as I always get a big "?" when the error happens. Thanks

Since 3.4 dosent exist yet thats kind of hard to say, dont you think?

But knowing what I do about how modchips and updates work I'd say the odds of them being able to block mods through firmware alone are practically nil.

The easiest and safest way to do a system upgrade from 3.1 to 3.3 is to do the system update from the console over the Internet

I know it has been mentioned here in other threads and after reading through the postings I am still unclear and confused about whether having a wiikey installed in the Wii will cause the updating through the internet to 3.3U be causing any problems in using the copied (pirated)DVD games ?

I have a wiikey installed and running on 3.1U. Manay of teh commercially pirated games are not readable but some are. Mine is a US console. Will updating to 3.3U make the console be able to read the pirated DVDs? Thank you.
