From my experience with fixing RROD consoles some tut's aske you to use more washers than you need which keeps the heatsinks from making proper contact with the thermal paste on the cpu and gpu no matter how tight you have it. However you would have a secondary error code to go along with it.

Did you do the "penny trick"? Essentially it's adding heatsinks to the 4 ram chips. There was also a diagram in the whispermax fan kit that comes with 2 heatsinks that they show putting on two chips on the top part of the motherboard. I'm not sure what they are called but it's the one that has a silver circle on it below the dvd drive and then the other large black chip adjacent to the fan. Since I got that fan I've started adding heatsinks to those areas on systems I fix too.

Maybe someone else knows the proper names for those chips and can help out?

Either way good luck with it

I thought it was knock on wood....

Anyway the penny fix isn't a heatsink mod, it's actually to apply pressure on the ram chips that may have became disconnected from the board. I'm sure they get decently warm after awhile but their main purpose is to push the ram against the board again.

yea the main problem with the entire 360 basically is that its getting too hot, melting the solder, which then makes things come lose/breaks connections. so almost all fixes are just applying pressure where needed to re-instate those connections again.
