Well I downloaded mine on July 2nd 12:00 AM and I just love the update. The IN-GAME XMB is so convenient. The trophies aren't that much of an importance but hey i'll take any extras.

BACK UP ALL YOUR DATA

IF YOU WANT THE UPDATE PLEASE READ (yes I know sony took it off their servers but it's not hard to update your system). You can update your consoles through the internet or memory stick so here's the memory stick way...

Go to http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9D6NE8HK

And download the update and then plug in your usb stick into your computer. Create a folder named PS3 and then inside that folder create a folder named UPDATE and place the file u downloaded inside.

Then turn on your PS3,plug the usb stick in,go to update and click through memory stick.

If you update using a USB as opposed to network it is more likely to work. It is also mentioned that if it does brick, you can just take the hard drive out and format it on a PC to fix it. So if you backup your data first theres nothing to lose but some time if it goes bad.

2.41 is supposed to be out Wednesday so you might want to hold off installing 2.40 from a 3rd party source. Even though it may not brick your console, why take the chance? I'm one of the people that also love the update. Only problems I've seen is the Uncharted Demo freezing and the PS3 taking a couple tries to log into PSN.
