i don't really know which mod-chip my wii has, because i bought it pre-modded in bangkok. the firmware is 3.1U right now.

to find out which mod-chip i have. i tried to run the wiikey config disc. the disc ran and i saw all the config option. does this mean i have a wiikey??

i tried the wiikey 1.9s update, but i got an error with something about a connections error.

so.... do i have a wiikey, or should i try to install the cyclowiz update just to try it out.

btw, i can SMG if that means anything.

Just because the Wiikey Config disk booted doesn't mean you have a Wiikey. Allot of users that do not have a Wiikey use the Config disc for GCoS and the SD backup option that is included on the Config disc.

Opening the Wii up really is the only way you will know for sure what modchip you have.

UPDATE: I just ran the wiiconnect update, and i am successfully on 3.3U. does this reduce the number of wii modchips that i might have??

As I said above it is best to open the Wii and check.

There are allot of Modchips out there. It might not be Wiikey or Cyclowiz.

Running the Cyclowiz update isn't as simple as placing the DVD update in the Wii. it should have a external switch to turn off the Modchip during updating. If the switch is not installed then you either don't have a Cyclowiz or the installer never installed the update switch.

Open the Wii up and if you do not know what Modchip it is take a picture and post it for us to let you know what it is. Or call the person that you bought/installed the Modchip and ask them what it is. I still can't believe users buy a Wii with Modchip pre-installed without knowing what Modchip is in it.
