I used DVD Decrypter to make a copy of a DVD. The copy plays fine in our dvd machine, but the original now gives a zone error message and won't play. Can someone please explain to me how this can have happened. Surely the software cannot have changed the zone code on the original dvd as it is a DVD-ROM. The original played perfectly before I used this software to make a copy of it.

sallie,

If it's a question of not playing on your PC, try rebooting your PC (to clear the clipboards) then try again :)

I can't see where you messed up your original unless you smudged it - Try cleaning the disc too -

Hello "P". Thanks for the reply. The original disc in question plays on the pc but won't play on the DVD machine. It played perfectly on the DVD machine before I copied it. It is not smudged and has no scratches on it. Is there any way that the copied dvd can alter the software on the DVD player perhaps? It is a Pioneer. I have tried resetting the players settings to the defaults, unoplugging it from the wall socket, etc, but the dvd still gives the incompatible zone error.

Thanks
Sallie

sallie,

There's no way that the copied DVD can change the software on your DVD player - The disc just lays there and spins, the laser reads the information and transmits what it reads. If other discs work then it isn't your DVD laser out of alignment or dirty either.

What I'm wondering is perhaps the first copy was made to a -R disc and when you copied it, you copied it to a +R disc (or visa versa) and your DVD player has some compatibility issues reading that type of media - it's a possibility we have to look into -

It could be that it's a "sometimes" thing. Have you tried the disc on any other player ? We need to do that -

Depending on your answers, I may just leave your post without answering it, if your name remains visible
instead of mine you'll get faster attention from some of the other members - more brains working on your problem :-))

Lastly, post the type of media you used and the name and model of your standalone -
