I have a 40g PS3 and i read in a magazine that 50g is required to play MGS4.I have already played several games on my system including MGS4 with no problems.I just do not understand how the "space "works. If i play more and more games does that mean i will run out of space on my PS3? Can someone please explain.

I guess it depends on how much "Stuff" you have on your ps3, movies, music, ect. and the biggest problem would be the mandatory installs, if you play games that require this then yes you are gonna run out of space and quickly too, to save space you could delete the installs of the games you don't play(assuming they take a chunk of your memory 4GB for example), to delete them go to Game>>Game Data Utility, then delete the one you don't want, don't worry about deleting your progress, that is saved on another folder(Saved Data Utility) as lond as you don't delete your Saved Data Utility file then all your progress will be intact, all you have to do is pop in the game re-install it and keep on playing

Another option is to Upgrade to a bigger Hard Drive, don't worry by doing this it will NOT void the warranty

Ohh and to check how much space you got left go to
Settings>>System Settings>>System Information

BTW MGS4 doesn't take 50GB, it takes around 4.6GB if i'm not mistaken

MGS4 is pretty much 50gb on the disc, but the several installs are only small (3-4gb), and each overwrites the previous install as you progess through the game. If you constantly play games that require install then you will eventually run out of space, but dont think there are that many to be honest. I have about 10 PS3 games and the only ones that installed for me were MGS4 and GTA4.

The PS3's hard drive can be replaced, so basically the only real limit is how large of a 2.5" SATA hard drive there is on the market. I'm not totally sure as to how they replace it, because I've never done it before. Try googling it or using the search function built into the site.

Yeah like they said, no all games require you to install them on your hdd, most will run from the disk.

Also changing the hdd to larger one is very simple, all you need it a screwdriver. Dont know if there is a cap in hdd size though.

Largest Laptop hardrive Ive seen was a 320gb. I plan on getting this one to replace the 40gb. Has anyone heard of a larger 2.5 5400rpm hard drive?
