Targus IR Keyboard?

Well I've read up on PiKey and that the Targus/Palm keyboards seem to work best with the PiKey IR setup.

I'm just curious as to how an IR keyboard on the PSP is possible? I'm not too familiar with IR and thought that the PSP had to have some kind of hardware inside of it to send/receive IR Signals?

it only works with the phat psp
the phat psp's have a infra red port
