Hi, everyone.

I am getting Unable to read disc on some latest games (2008 releases).
It all started when the in-game update froze, and I had to reboot wii.
I've updated to 3.3u with not much of success, except just 1 game (Hulk).
I am on WIIKEY 1.9s, NTSC.
Everything older than Bully plays fine.
I have no idea what it is.
And I am sorry for bringing it up again but I desperately need help here.

Thank you all for your kind assistance.

Make sure the games are not patched games that are Tucha signed. The 3.3 firmware disables this and the games will not work.

Trucha signed games get different errors, and the problem started while I was still on 3.2U
I put Lego Indiana Jones which apparently happened to be PAL (I did not know that at thwe moment). It asked for the update, then froze in the middle.
I rebooted it. The disc could not be read anymore, as well as pretty much every new game.
Everything prior to that works fine.
Bully gives me the error as well but if I run the config disc and put Bully right after, it works fine.
As soon as I reload Bully, it does not work anymore (config disc again).

After updating to 3.3, Hulk can be ran. Extreme Heroes and Lego (NTSC version) ran just a couple of times.

Sorry for being a noob but...

If updating keeps causing so many troubles, wouldnt it be better to stop updating the Wii and just to use Wii Brick Blocker to get rid of updates?

What do updates provide anyways? Sorry I dont have a Wii of my own yet ><

Thanks

In my case, update had to be applied to run a game from a different region.
Another word, I had made a mistake of using a PAL disc by thinking the update was required, period.
And the updates provide extra features to the console software or, as in 3.3, block some modifications.
In many cases, you can avoid the update.

Hope, that explains it.

More and more I have noticed that Wiikey users have had allot of issues with newer games. I would have updated to a D2Pro2 by now. Seems to be a bit more stable with newer firmware that Nintendo is putting out.

As well you would still have a Modchip to install if the Wii system ever takes a dump and you get a D2C drive. I see allot of users say why buy an expensive Modchip when you can get a Wiikey. Well if the D2Pro2 gives less hassles then in the long run for me the extra $ would be worth it.

All I can suggest is trying to use the recovery disc for the Wiikey and then reinstall the 1.9s firmware update again.

What media do you use? You could have received a bad batch of media or if you use low class media the manufacture could have changed and they just are not good enough quality disc to use for the Wii. But this reasoning could be questionable if you can get the games to work sometimes and other times they don't.

I tried reloading firmware, going back to 1.9g, using 1.3 and 1.4 config discs.
The only achievement so far is that Bully sometimes runs (see the previous post).
DVD media is fine, the same as all other backups that work, ie RITEK, VERBATIM, etc, only branded media, no cheap no name junk.
I don't think it is WIIKEY's fault.
However, all ideas are greatly welcomed.
Hopefully, we can narrow it down and find a fix.
Because if it happened to me, it will definitely happen to someone else.

This has been a more frequent issue with allot of Wiikey owners. So I know your not the only one out there that is having this issue.

Larry,
but have these users made the same mistake?
Just curious.

What are the chances that I could've fried the main WII's firmware?

If you can boot the Wii and go into system settings then the Wii firmware should be fine.

I still think it has to do with the Wiikey stability. Most Modchip issues popping up on this forum are users that have a Wiikey and booting of newer games. You hardly ever here of other modchips that are having issues with the latest games.

Yes, WII's setting are fine. The only issue was some duplicate channels which I was able to get rid of.
I wonder if there is a way to clear wiikey and program it from scratch.
When I reload firmware, it looks like it does not really erase pre-existing information.
I think if it can be done, then there is a good chance to have the problem solved.

I am running an authentic Wiikey with 1.9g beta. I have not experienced any problems with running any backups.

I backed up my copy of Wall-e on release day and had no problems.
I own several 2008 titles which have been backed up and run with no problem.

1.I only run games that were meant for my region Wii. USA-NTSC

2.I do not modify or tweak the .iso in any way

3.I am using an 9164B to rip and a Pioneer to burn using Verbatim 4x -R media

zman13. Did you ever find a fix to this problem. I actaully had the EXACT same thing happen to me.

Everything worked fine and I borrowed a copy of lego indiana jones from my coworker and when I popped it in, I ran the update and froze up. After the reboot, that disc wouldnt even show the splash screen. And other games that used to work dont any more. I get that disc read error. PLEASE TELL ME YOU FIXED YOURS!!!

I've also tried to redo the config discs and reflash my wiikey. I also tried to downgrade the firmware all the way back to 2.2U but no luck.

I also us good media, the Taiyos that lots of people recommends and burn with IMG like everybody again recommends. So I'm pretty sure its not the media. Also because games that used to work perfectly fine dont anymore.

I've also tried the pot laser adjustment down to the 500 some ohms. I also tried to clean the lens. I'm all out of ideas.

Switched to RiData DVD-R instead of DVD+R. Then it all started working again.
