wiikey 1.9s/x after 3.3j update...would it work for GH3?

Hiya I've got a jap wii so i've never really adjusted the settings, connected it to the net and so on but this morning i did...but i downloaded the 3.3j update...knowing that same region updates are 'safe' from bricking but ignorant that my wiikey wouldn't be effective if i wanted to update it to 1.9x. In any case after running the online update, i burned my 1.9x update and 1.4 config discs (verbatim -R) and they ran fine, ran the update etc...but my GH3 (my *ahem* backup copy ^_^') is still insisting on updating! ...it's english i know that at least...but i dont know whether its pal or ntsc

should that update still be trying to happen? has my update worked properly? does 1.9x work for guitar hero 3?

i don't have any other recent games like smg (well i do, but it's jap anyways)

how can i check if my update has worked then? borrow a newish pal disk? (cos i'm living in uk)

all my other backups and originals (from pal ntsc and jap) that i've tested asofar are still working without wanting to run updates but i dont have anything particularly new eg ssbb or wiifit to test it with...just hoping that someones got some info to tell me what's happening and whether the 1.9x/s update has worked.
