I have listed all the steps I have used to create a formatted SD card from various other sites. If someone can tell me they have used the exact same steps and it worked then I can narrow down what must be wrong. Then I will post the complete solution for all those with the same problem. As I have spent many hours trying to find a solution on net and not one works for me

Here are the steps to create a formatted SD card for backing up games on Wii using gecko style adapter in Gamecube slot A
? Loaded 2G SD card in to reader on Laptop
? Right click on SD card drive (F:)in My Computer
? Formatted using these settings
a. Capacity [1.89 GB]
b. File System [FAT]
c. Allocation unit size [default allocation size]
d. Volume Label [DVDDUMP] can be anything as this will be changed by file later
e. Quick format not ticked
? Press Start
? Error message appears Warning: Formatting will erase ALL data?
? Press OK
? Takes my new laptop about 10 seconds to format
? Message appears [Format Complete]
? Press OK
? Press Close on Formatting window
? Open downloaded DVD dump utilities (downloaded from internet, available everywhere)
? Contained the files
a. do_cmd.bat
b. dump.bat
c. dumptool.exe
d. dvddump.dol
e. formatSD.bat
f. readme.txt
g. SDLOADER.BIN (added myself from somewhere else)
? Ran formatSD.bat
? Dos window pops up
? Please enter the driveletter for your SDCard
? Type drive letter [F]
? Message appears [Wiikey dvd dumptool v0.8] [*** FORMATTING. WARNING ALL DATA ON DRIVE F: WILL BE LOST!!! ***] Continue?
? Press [y]
? Press[Enter]
? Message appears [Insert new disk for drive F: and press ENTER when ready?]
? Press[Enter]
? Some writing pops up quickly then some more [new free discpace:2030927872 bytes <1936mb> allocating dump file f:\wiidump.bin with size 2021654528 bytes <1928 mb> padding file. Please wait?] this takes about 10 minutes on my new laptop
? When it finishes it makes a beeo sound (like receiving a text message) and dos window disappears
? Right click on SD card drive [DVDDUMP (F:)] in My Computer
a. It has 2021687296 bytes (1.88GB) of used space
b. It has 9240576 bytes (8.81MB) of free space
c. Total capacity is 2030927872 bytes (1.89GB)
? Looking on SD card it now has one file on it[ wiidump.bin] 1974273 KB
? From this point on it would appear I get it wrong
? Loaded it into Wii now with gecko and following wiikey disk 1.3 and selecting dump and putting in disk I get [***error reading card*** ]

So then I tried extra things!!
?

Then I when Start>run
? Type CMD
? I Typed cd c:\
? This brings it back to C:\>
? I then typed cd\dvddump (I placed a folder called dvddump on c drive which contains the file [SDpatch.exe])
? I then typed sdpatch.exe f:\
All this writing came up
SLoad Card Patcher V1.00 by Costis
<Windows 200\NT\XP Version>
Querying Device name of drive f:\...OK!
Device name: ||.|GLOBALROOT|| Device\Harddisk1\partition0
Obtaining low-level access to drive...OK!
Reading first sector...OK!
Master Boot record found in sector 0
Inserting level 2 boot-code in MBR...OK!
Verifying Master Boot record...OK!
Releasing Low Level Access handle...OK!
The SD card has been patched successfully. The file system on it should remain completely functional as before, and you may now proceed to the next step of the action replay SD card bootloader installation process.
? Loaded it into Wii now with gecko and following wiikey disk 1.3 and selecting dump and putting in disk I get [***error reading card*** ]
I have then tried the same processes but using the Wiikey utilities download
? It has in the windows header [Wiikey Base 1.2 Disc Utilities ?Wiikey Contest Edition (can you find the easter egg?]
? I selected tab Disc backup
? Selected my SD drive [F]
? Pressed the [Prepare Card for Disc Backup] button and followed all the same steps and still get the same error.
Here are my assumptions as to what is causing problems.
? I have a bad gecko card (it is an imitation one] though I jiggled it a LOT) and they are only a piece of plastic with some connectors at each end. (I can see they are making contact by the marks on SD cards)
? SD cards format wrong on HP laptops
? All my SD cards are unsuitable
? Wiikey not installed properly (though updates and plays backups fine)
? I am using corrupted SD dos programs
? I have missed a step and no one have not seen it on any site
? I am the dumbest man alive.

Hopefully through my info above people can see that I have been thorough and will be able to point me to the missing step I have not done or pointed out a flaw in the system such as incompatible cards, dud batch of adapters or loader programs
If I have missed a step, I will stick it in then no one will ever ask this question again

Notes:
? Tried 3 different 2GB cards all of which work on other things
o Cheap card called ?pq1? (2 years old)
o SanDisk (bought from office works recently)
o Kingston Technology Micro SD in an adapter
 (I have tiny serial numbers on the back if that would help?)
? I have done this step on different model laptops, all running XP, though all HP?s .One did not recognise micro SD via SD adapter (though it saw adapter) and one would offer to format to 1 GB only
? I wiggled SD?s in the gecko adapter.
? I wiggled the gecko adapter in Slot A.
? Slot A works fine for saving NGC games
? Wiikey in has been patched to latest version [1.9s]
? Tried formatsd.bat from different download sites
? Tried formatsd.bat from different download sites
? Tried Wiikey utilities from different download sites (I like it over formatsd.bat)
? I have PAL Wii with a D2B chip

Please help me!!
