Hi guys,

I'm considering getting a 360, but I don't understand the differences between flashing and modding, other than the fact that modding requires modchips and flashing doesn't...they both let you play backed up games, right?

Can someone explain or post a good guide (preferebly one that's updated?)

Thanks

well flashing is modding, you want to just flash your drive, not solder a modchip in it. You can play backups with flashing. Search for "Dindi" on here, he has a good guide in his signature link.

Hey thanks for the post, I found his Textbook 2008 guide and I'm reading it now.

One question - if I flash my drive can I still play on XBL with games that I buy?

if you ever updated firmware on a cd drive or anything like that, the process of flashing is what your doing. The only thing is that there are certain steps you take differently on each drives. Follow what machine99 said with the guide and you will be good to go.

sorry, didnt realize you asked that....haha... i just want to add that there is a chance of getting banned from XBL if you flash your firmware and play any type of game.. burnt or a legit copy. All this does is ban your console and you can use your account elsewhere. Your system will still work fine to play any types of games, just not online.

dont mean to nitpick, just thought id add in on what you said before the guy tried to do something that is impossible.

once flashed, the console will still only play games from its native region, or region free games. this meaning if you have an NTSC console, it will not play PAL games, or vice versa. however, it can play PAL- region free games.
