In January, the social web radio service Last.fm announced that it was going to introduce the Artist Royalty Program which would give royalties to unsigned artists every time their songs are played through the site's ad-supported streaming music feature or Web radio. IMO, Indie music's the best, I can't stand for that mainstream "All Time Low" garbage.

Merlin mises the point you cannot retroactively pay them without destroying the system that is seeking to give them some profit, this is the problem with the whole industry to insanely focus on profits solely leads to stagnation of information and the spread of media slowing the profits that could be gained from people who want to try and pay for it, by writing off everyone as thieves.
