Hi there! I'm new to this forum.Im having problems with my rockband for the wii (US version). I've got a Japanese WII firmware 3.3j with wiikey updated to 1.9s. The wii recognizes the Original disc on the menu, but after starting the game and shows you the first screen it goes blank, and i also tried GH:aerosmith and same thing happens, also with SMG. I hope someone can help me out there. Im feeling bad spending all that money and not being able to play the game. Thanks in advance!

Had the same problem to, not being able to play rockband on my jap modded wii (3.2j).

The rockband image comes up, but when you click on play, the screen goes black.

Apparently, there is a way to get around this, by making a backup copy of the DVD, using trucha signer to "sign" the ISO and burning it onto a DVD.

I've been trying to get it to work on my backup copy, without any luck. Can anyone elaborate on the signing process?

I have a Japanese Wii with a WiiKey. Rock Band tried to update my system and semi-bricked it (there is a disk to un-semi-brick that fixed it for me). I have been unable to play Rock Band since I bought it a month ago.

No solutions yet. I'm very sad! Since I upgraded to 3.3j, I'm not sure if it's worth trying to download it. This is very annoying, and really leads me to question why I bother to buy software when cracked versions work better (or, in this case, they work and the original doesn't!).

I've read that using trucher signer to "sign" a backup of the iso (which i made using my legit disk) would make it work. Even on the 3.2J firmware.

I've tried it on loads of DVDs and i've got the rockband image to load up but I still get the blackscreen error.

It's incredible that we've paid so much money to buy the entire legit set (game, drums, guitar, mic) and the bloody thing doesn't work. Not even any mention from the developers on what's causing this.

Blame Nintendo, not the developers. Nintendo are the ones who decided to put region encoding on the Wii (unlike the DS). And they continue to try and detect things like WiiKey that get around the region encoding.

It wasn't just a decision at design time: they are actively trying to stop you and me from playing non-Japanese games on our Japanese Wiis.

I just got a reply from harmonix confirming that the instrument that we use for the US rockband should be compatible for future release of rockband in other region. In this case Japan and Europe.

Hope harmoix is right

There is another message on the board here from someone who did it. He reverted to firmware 3.2j, then copied his disk and trucha signed it, and it worked. If you search, you should be able to find it.

I managed to get a legit copy of Rock Band working on a Japanese modded wii! (Running 3.2J and wiikey 1.9s)

What it involved doing was going in and changing the region for the wii. I based what I did off of this thread here that someone else wrote. Tho instead I used tona's Any Region Changer v1.1 to change all of the wii configurations (system menu and region) into US ones. Then I used the wiikey 1.9s configuration program to edit the modchip settings(the US version tho, cause the JAP version wouldn't boot anymore since I changed the region) to change the load speed to 3x and turned region free off. I couldn't get the trucha signed disc to work (I think I didn't do it properly tho) but the legit copy worked and we have been playing it all night =D. All instruments registered and the game seemed to work perfectly. So in the end, the 3.2J wii became a 3.2U wii (japanese -> US)

Be careful if you want to attempt changing the region tho, cause messing up can brick your wii.

Also, maybe this would work on an unmodded wii? Since you don't need a modded wii to get homebrew apps to work like Any Region Changer. I'm not sure how the configuration stuff on the wiikey affects the game loading...

hey liny861

I think I'll try what you did. Sounds smart. Can you give more details instructions? I'm mostly a newb at this. I'm guessing you need the Homebrew channel installed?

Hi...

Have any of you managed to get the instruments working on a Jap wii running USA Rockband?
My Mic is fine, but unable to 'see' the drums or guitar... something to do with the USB driver maybe?
If so is there a fix?

Cheers

Ok after 2 months of research and effort, I finally got all the instruments up
(USA Ntsc Rockband, Modded Jap Wii, Homebrew installed, Originally on 3.2j but now all system settings changed to 3.2u, Gecko OS installed, Menuloader installed)

The key to solving it was firstly changing all the system settings to US with Anyregionchanger, then the final part of the puzzle, installing Menuloader which I now run the game from. In Menuloader you need to leave the 'Disable updates' toggle OFF, this seems to allow the USB's to update & connect properly.
The only downside is I now have to boot all my other games (all Jap) through Gecko OS as the machine is a bit confused with its identity.

Happy Days...
