How to save snes games to SD card???

I have no problem loading roms off a disc using snes9x-gx 2.0, but when I go to "save to SD card", like Simcity or Super Punch Out to my SD card it tells me "Unable to write file". Also having similar problems using other emu's , like NES. Any suggestions?
