I've been working with the psp for a very long time and this is the first time i've come up to this problem.Today i had bought a psp from a friend. The only problem is that the disc reader doesn't work and makes a awful loot of noise. But it didn't matter to me since i could play iso straight off from the memory card.Anyways the psp was already on CFW 3.90 M33 and i try to update it to 4.01 M33 but when it gets to 92% it stop and says
Updated Failed
Please Contacted Technical
FEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Luckily i have Pandora but I've tried updating the psp 4 times already and still it won't update to 4.01 M33
Any ides what could possibly be wrong.

Nothing to do with key 5 as he is already on 3.90 M33
Remove any themes you have installed, reset flash1 & try the update again.

I have the same problem updating to 4.01 m33. My Phat PSP running 3.90 M33-3 will freeze at 92% and displays the "update failed" message. I tried keycleaner 1.4, reformatting Flash01, downgrading from 1.5 to 3.52-3 M33 to 4.01 m33 and it always freezes at 92%. My PSP also has a broken UMD drive, is this why it won't update? We might need to wait for Despertar del Cementerio version 6 to install 4.01 m33.

Probably a corrupt registry. Go into recovery mode, go to advanced, and then Format flash1 and restore settings. The PSP will reboot. Then try to run the updater.
Does anorexia induce constipation?

he already use Format flash1 and reset settings option on the recovery menu. just like what i've said, if the PSP is phat. try using Keycleaner 1.4 then unpatched the key 5. then update it. If problem persist, just hope that D_A will release DDC_V6

Thank you for your suggestions but my Phat PSP is still freezing during the 4.01 M33 update and bricks. I unpatched the Key 5 using Keycleaner 1.4, formated Flash1 and used a different memory stick. Any other ideas?

Forgot to mention that when the update gets to about 82%, the memory card light stops flashing and the updated bar slowly moves to 92%.

So the problem must be found on the UMD disc drive.
I've tried everything i have been told but i just couldn't get it to update =[[[
I hope Dark Alex does release Dc V6 but now they've released 4.05.
So am i going to be waiting for Dark Alex to release a Dc every time lol
I'm going to try and get a slim psp.

Same thing happened again with 5.00 m33. I guess if you have a broken umd drive you'll need to wait for a new Despertar del Cementerio.

ok, sry for ressurect this thread, but i guess i have some interesting news, actually the problem is with the UMD drive, without it your psp WILL ALWAYS refuse to update do any firmware beyond 4.01 as far as i know, i just (in this minute) re-installed my UMD drive and the update went well ;), i sugest to those people who removed or broke their UMD drives to reinstall/replace them in ordem to update their psp's.
