Here is what I am doing, hopefully someone can shed some light! I have a Rosewill SATA card from newegg. It has a big ole chip in the middle with VIA VT6421A. I downloaded the latest FW using the link provided from Hacking the Xbox360 for NOOBS (thanks Textbook!)I installed iPrep 7.1. used xbins to download 1.41 FW for the BenQ went through all the steps and I get the "reading finished datasum" at the end and firmtool will not start! I uninstalled iPrep and re-installed iPrep 6.2 same results. What am I doing wrong? Thanks ahead of time for any input
step 1: put USB stick into USB slot
2: open up iPrep
3: load firmware definition (1.4.1)
4: select drive letter from drop down box
5: hit make bootable
6: shut down computer
7: deassemble 360 and hook the dvd drive up to the PCI card
8: turn computer on, boot off the USB stick
9: follow command prompts (it will put the orig.bin on the USB stick after you run the dben 1234567 12345 command.)
10: shut down 360 and computer and restart into windows
11: open up Firmware toolbox and make sure the FW it dumped is a legit one. if so move on, if not do as i said before to copy and paste a legit key in it.
12: restart computer and boot off the USB drive.
13: follow command promts and run the fben 1234567 12345 command to erase/flash the drive with the 'hacked' firmware.
14: shut down 360 and computer
15: put a burnt game in it to make sure it plays.
16: if it plays, put 360 back together
17: if it doesnt play games, see if it will play original games then restart computer off the USB drive, hook 360 back up and run the rben 1234567 12345 command to restore it to original shape. and start over
I dont find a file called orig.bin but in the backup folder i found a file called benq-ofw.bin. I opened it up in Firmware Toolbox 4.6 it says it is good. there is another file called BenQ-cfw but it is 0kb. Do I have to manually merge the hacked FW and the BenQ-ofw FW?
yea, the file that is named 'cfw' or 'ofw' is the one i was referring to. if FWTB says that the key is something like ALSKDJF2WEOURA instead of FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF or 777777777777777777 then you can proceed onto the flashing part. if was FFFFFFFF or 777777777 then go into the backup folder, and open one of those keys out, and copy the key and paste it over the 'cfw/ofw' key and hit the replace key button. and then i always close FWTB and reopen the 'hacked' fw to make sure it did it. then you can reboot and finish the flashing part.
Thanks a bunch! I guess there are more people having this problem then just me. Looking through the forums at x-projects there is a tut on manually hacking the FW I had to end up doing that. ran into problems with iPrep 7.1 and 7.2 ended up saving my hacked and original FW; reflashing the flash drive with 6.2 copying the FW to the flash drive and it worked!
