How can I tell if my PS2 games are PAL or NTSC? All of the orginal covers where thrown away to fit all discs on a spindle and some do not say if they are pal or ntsc...
Is their software that can detect this like smartripper detects dvds?

All you need to do is pop it in your PC, browse in windows explorer and look for a serial code.

What is a serial code?
Quote:
Serial codes has 4 letters and 5 numbers (eg. SLUS-20963) and can be found in 3 places; printed on the side of the game case (PS1 games also have it printed on the front of the case), printed on the game disc, and within the disc's file directory (with a slightly different format - SLUS_209.63).

Each of the 4 letters has a different meaning:
1st: The media type
S = CD/DVD
U = UMD

2nd: Licensing
C = 1st party (Sony)
L = 3rd party

3rd: Region
E = Europe/PAL
J/P = Asia/Japan
U = US/Canada

4th: Release Type
D = Demo
M = Malasian Release (?)
S = Retail Release

The 5 digit has no real meaning, although they are generally considered to be in chronological order based on when they were assigned (NOT by release date).

Fantastic info!
So I guess thats why the game loads but it has a constant vertical hold problem when I load a PS2 PAL game on a NTSC tv?
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks!

If your ps2 is modded and willing to make another backup copy of your PAL games, you can patch the iso of the game from pal to ntsc before you burn it.
Instructions are HERE

If your ps2 is not modded and you want to play the disc you already have you can buy a pal>ntsc signal converter. Though i havent tried this solution.

You can read THIS for referrence.
